Just watched it. English subs, 'cos I don't understand a word of Jap.
Nice ending theme by Aerosmith.

Movie showed a lot of promise at the beginning. But began to bog down into draggy melodrama soon after, so typical of Jap storylines. Oh why, oh why?!

Jeez, the last part was unbearable. Enemy megaship launches a doomsday missile at Earth, and the bridge crew have a full 10 minutes of melodramatic dialogue before they went after the missile?! Nearly pulled my hair out.

My head hurts.

Decent CGI and sets. Reasonably good overall storyline. Acting not too bad. Only the excessive melodrama lets it down.

3/5 stars.

CG was surprisingly good. But then Japan has a history of making excellent CG. Just look at the Final Fantasy series of games.

Anyway, the Gamilas (alien baddies in SBY) ships are sorta organic looking. Very nice inspiration

I love when movies from outside the USA get that "Big Sci-fi Movie" feel. The genre needs more innovation than hollywood can provide.

It's a Cartoon I used to watch when I was a kid in the late 70s. They finally made it into a Movie. Japan's BSG. Infact I think it came out about the same time as the original BSG series.

I watched it in the theaters, but I reckon it will be available for download somewhere on some Chinese file sharing site soon.

The live movie came out in Japan in Dec 2010. It just opened where I live.

I'm guessing it might have a limited run in the US, since they got Aerosmith to do the closing theme.
