I expect the scorch of flammage shortly but if you look at the grand scheme of things it makes perfect sense. Stations were introduced before the rank of marshal and chief marshal were established. Add in the fact of the perpetual whining about station spam and moving stations to marshal/chief marshal would cure both.
As a trade off for the FA/GA loosing stations it wouldn't be that hard to add in another dread flavor to the mix so they can ween on that instead.

I second your idea.
Move Support stations and one of the other to M.
CM gets the remaining. Either Battle or Command station.
Give one more dread to GA.

Well, TBH, giving a super-God-weapon to CM is definitely not the way to go.... Personally I wouldn't mind it, but I don't think that's what the Devs want for DS.
What else? Giving it some kind of ship with a superweapon, but the ship itself is fragile and needs a lot of protection? Perhaps.... but I still don't think the Devs will bite that.
So maybe moving stations up is the only logical choice, in terms of new ships or ships reallocation.

moving ranks up for ships will not solve the problem, only put it off for some time
Eventually everyone will rank up and we have the same problem again
what will you do then? make new ranks?

I kinda find myself agreeing with the budah. But moving stations up a rank or two wouldnt be giving the Cs and CMs anything. It would just make them rarer. You COULD move stations up and just put a new WEPON in the original hull. That would be rewarding, some god wep, that needs time to recharge. Make it require ship power, so one shot needs 100% power, and you need to wait for it to recharge to fire again.
So-stations moved up with new wepon or new ship for the CMs.
(just adding in and i know others have too, a few wouldnt like loosing their stations, though i wouldnnt mind much if these things were added.

How abt a all in one dread. Which will have all capabilities. The features and weapons of all DS ships moulded into a big dread. It will be a combination of all dreads + engineer ship + supply ship + beacons + indicator + WH device + all ....
OR may be a fast moving super station.

i would be slightly sad about loseing my stations but i could deal with it and it would fix alot of problems

i don't mind losing my stations. i only use them when UGTO is extraordinary stupid and fly nothing but them, or when someone needs repairs.

I wouldn't be opposed to stations getting beefed up a little if the rank was upped. It would indeed make them rare to see in god awful clumps of 5 v 5 anymore. We all know that everyone will rank up in time so I don't see that as a concern because by the time they have to add additional ranks there will be a completely new set of problems I'm sure. And it's not like we would leave FA/GA's twisting in the wind with additional dreads added to the lineup.
So if the Dev Team decided to move stations (with some upgrading) up to Marshal/Chief Marshal and adding a few more dreads I see it resolving more issues which cause discouraging eye leakage than random melancholy it would create.

oh so i have a classic UGTO response?
then tell me, when alot of people finally reach marshal/chief marshal,
whats the solution then? its all a cycle, make big ships require bigger ranks, when they reach that rank make it bigger
call me a ugto station spammer, i dont care, but tell me a solution first
one that doesnt just delay the problem
P.S. If you make small ships more appealing, like torp dessies, the problem is fixed better than moving rank requirements
also, by moving station rank station spam can happen again in the future, while making smaller ships more appealing eliminates station spam better
