Hi all,

I wanted to throw my first idea out there regarding getting our Player Base back.

Ship Drops: when a ship is destroyed it may drop an enhancement as we all know. Imagine if instead of a useless non-wanted enhancement, the destroyed ship dropped the equivalent in credits so that the players could buy their own personal choice of enhancements? This would give players a reason to play more often and another goal besides prestige gain.

All new exciting changes should also be emailed to every DarkSpace player in the database.

[I have many more ideas to get back our Player Base and keep new players, if you have any new ideas..please post here]

Cheers,
Blade

Darkspace died the day the devs turned off the old scenario servers in favour of the Metaverse server.

Yes, the metaverse server was generally poorly populated back in the day, but there would always be 5 or 6 scenario based servers that would run for maybe an hour per game. Always full, always a loads of fun. I can remember gaming nights of a few hours at a time smashing through the scenario servers.

The day PaleStar forced everyone onto metaverse server and attempted to be an Eve Online competitor, the fan base and players drifted away. Me included.

I still pop in from time to time to see how things are, and in the last 10 years, no change sadly.

Darkspace was and still has the potential to be an awesome game, but the devs need to look at what made them successful and stand out, not try and be compete with the financial, player and dev might of Eve, Elite, Star Citizen etc etc

Ok, I get your frustration, but I am confused as to why it is the 'Devs' fault...it is not true because it is the 'players' fault. The Devs did nothing wrong. It is us players that deserve the blame, if we all played more then no one would complain regardless of the devs game changes. It is about the players and we need to just log in and play...it is that simple!

Well yes and no. It's true that the game is dying due to the lack of players. But I still point back to a significant turning point in the exodus of players, that been the loss of the scenario based servers. That was a dev choice. The removal of the scenario servers was a choice made against (my memory is hazy on this point so I may be wrong) the advisement of a significant number of the players. They turnd the servers off, forced the player base into the metaverse, and the player numbers started to dwindle.

Ultimately, it is the Dev's fault. Players won't stick around for a game they are not enjoying. Find out what the player base want (or wanted) and offer them that, you'll get the players back.

Clearly what is on offer currently isn't enjoyable to the majority of the players who have come along and left, and alot of the older players who have drifted off. If it isn't enjoyable then people will leave. If the dev's choose to continue with what clearly isn't working to attract and keep players, then yes, at the end of the day it is their fault.

I see your keeping yourself busy Blade. What DS needs is to retain the few new players it does get a bit better. Although I'm not really sure how to go about that.

The games open source if you want to make the changes required?

I'm glad you guys went open source, I've just found it hard to get back into this game because a lot of the stubborness, elitism, and the game itself being a bit on the unrewarding side. Lot's of time spent to gain prestige, but being easily ripped from you if you make a mistake in a high value unit.

I might give it another try here, but this game is really only at its best when you have at least 5 active players on each side, otherwise it's usually a k'luth gang bang, a steamroll, or a desolate wasteland.

IIRC they took off death penalties, at least, so that one thing is at least no longer a concern?

If true, that might help the problem of planet camping standoffs. You needed the raw firepower of a dreadnought at times, but pushing into an interdiction field and loads of planetary DPS was just setting yourself up for 400+ prestige lost.

So when do people generally play this? How many are still around?

Yeah. Check the patch notes, it's there. No need to hold the dreads back now >:)

1.710: "- Prestige loss upon death has now been removed."

I try to keep my GCQL up when I'm online in my timezone and see if anyone else actually plays, and play when I feel like it and can give it my full attention, or when I see another human player online and can spare enough focus. Trouble is, I'm an Aussie, so...

Exactly what Vorlon said.

I used to have a ridiculous amount of fun on this game and then they forced MV on everyone with Shipyards ect…

I was always playing Scenario servers and the race to cap planets and build them up so we could get Dreadnaughts and Cruisers established for the mid/late map PVP Battle was one of the greatest factors of Darkspace and fond memories I still hold.
Spamming K'luth button because of the intense dps you could dish out on an ambush. A fleet opening up Cl2k point blank on a lonely missile dread was one of the coolest things to see.

Delete MV and focus on the Scenario for Darkspace and it will be a top pvp game no question about it.
Mass email alert too with the changes to everyone in a newsletter too so returning players would probably subscribe again.

just so y'all know, even when i'm not active in the MV i have keep my monthly sub paid up, so to get me back on a more consistant basis would be probally 1 or 2 things, 1) make tech between the two human factions interchangeable and 2) return the resource types back to the way it was years ago like in .483, make planets useful again !!!!

peace out .............
