I wonder since we are back to single server if it's time to beef up/tweak the platforms so they can be used as system defense.

Right now a dread with enhancements can take out platforms from outside of the platform firing range and the platforms seem weak when it comes to sheilds, even with a sup plat next to a weapon plat the weapon plat gets killed fast. I'm not 100% sure what the range is now on a plat but I thnk something in the 1500GU range to at least give them a chance vs. Dreads either battle or missle would be better.

Could the sup plats be set that they will repair other plats before ships that are near them?

I believe platforms are part of 'support craft', along with engineers, transports, supply vessels, and possibly, fighters.
The range of platform devices is equal to their range. Weapon platforms fire as far as a battle-grade dreadnought using only core weapons without enhancements, given they use the same core weapons. And for the ranges of other devices, consult the Database, in documents, assuming platform level=0(?).

25% range buffing is not enough.
kluth weapon plats have only 820gu range compared to ion cannons with 57% range enhancements 2000gu range.

Sensor and Supply platforms are Destroyer-level; Weapons platforms are the same as standard Dreads.

Platforms aren't meant to replace humans entirely and allow for unassisted defense of planets, so you won't see them getting a huge buff. That said, as Dr Paradox assumed, they will be looked at as part of the general ship rework and may receive a few changes to make them more useful.

Exactly. And if you did, that choice should mean something, such as greater freedom to attack at such a range that your opponent cannot easily respond.

Would it be possible to allow platforms to install enhancments simply by droping them on to them? And maybe the same thing for ai?

I second this.

I'd be happy with just a distance increase to say 1500gu. I make about 10-15 at a time and thats fine.

Platforms are broken it seems: built 3, uggies came and killed them in about 5 seconds and the platforms never fired once.

Shig when you say weapon plats are the same standards as Dreads, just for weapons because they sure as heck don't withstand an attack like a dread. Two blasts and they are done.

Shig,

Perhaps supp and sens plats should remain the same, but weap plats might need a boost perhaps?

2 core weaps each, and 2 PDs.

Or.... How about implementing plat tiers for Supp and Weaps?
Lvl 1 supp and weap plats are the current, standard ones.

Lvl 2 Supp plats have double the number of drones, same defenses and a bit more armor/shields.

Lvl 2 Weap plats have double the armor and weapons onboard.

And both lvl 2 plats should take thrice the resources and 1.5x longer to build.

This should make even a small fleet of assaulting dreads think twice before attacking.

Even K'luths will have to reconsider attacking planets (or clusters) when faced with the prospect of invoking the wrath of say... 6 Heavy weap plats carrying 12 Ion Cannons or QSTs with their accompanying Heavy Chem lasers.

Another way to help with tranny rushing might be to introduce new PD plats. They would be cheap to build and lightly armored.

They could carry an array of 5 standard lasers or ruptors. And they should be programmed to not shoot at enemy ships, only bombs, missiles, and transport pods.

If deployed in very low orbit around a planet, they could mitigate tranny rushing. They're vulnerable to projectile or beam attacks by enemy ships and should be used in conjunction with supp and weap plats.

The idea here is to make each plat do more. We only have a 30 plat limit per faction the last I remembered.

I think only K'luth care plats.
They're way too easy to destroy for human factions. (They have real medium to long range ships)

Partially true.

When human factions take on a K'luth planet with plats and defs, they also have to worry about a few big red things suddenly decloaking off their rear quarters and sandwiching them in a Disruptor + SI crossfire.

serriously i wont be intimidated by more weapons, because most of those platforms are placed around a planet, limiting their field of fire, and because they're roughly placed in a line, you only have to deal with one platform shooting at you at a time
