It is simple...make all planets have "auto-build" that makes evenly space defenses the way we always make them. Of course it should be quicker if you use an Engy but this way a fleet could have just two roles, bombing fighting, and capping. Building leaves too many players behind. It is dumb and take away from the focus, conquering your enemy.

Ill have to shoot this down for one main simple reason - if this was to come to light, no one WOULD build. This would mean = weak planets which = bomb whoreing INCREASING.
Unfortunately, Engineering should stay to the playets...

Not true, building with an engy would be made quicker to planet developement than letting the local population build...
Additional Advantage:
Bomber "whoring" would cause quick response bombers attacking slow developement planets...>>>BUT<<
Faustus gets his increased combat, decreased lag, and increased player activity in playing with the systems INSTEAD OF SITTING AROUND FOR HOURS LIKE IDIOTS REBUILDING THEM!
Example: When the MV reset I built a bit, got bored and went to ICC systems to fight alittle. Do you know what the ICC whispered to me? "Please do not attack lets build our systems first..."
WHEN WAS THIS DAMN GAME BUILT ON PLAYING HOUSE!?
IT IS BASED ON COMBAT!

As it currently stands, it takes more than 40 mintues to build a fully functional planet. No one wants to spend 5 hours building up an entire system, if something will do it for you.

That really made no sense. See, with this "auto-build" people will only build when its absolutely necessary at that moment, and otherwise yes, would be off somewhere capping. The problem therein lies, is that your whole homespace is now vulnerable - just like now.

Wait - you just said its faster to build yet, this encourages them not too? This proves my point - no one would build, and that leaves all these "autobuilding planets" slowly building and free for the taking.
And less lag? Do you realize how much code it would take to slowly autobuild every planet?

Actually, DS is based on fleet strategy - its based on Combat - and bombing, suppling, engineering, capping..and so on.
The assumption the DS is pure combat is one which makes your post unsensible.

The rebuild wouldn't have to be real-time per-say, and would cause less lag than a bunch of engys chatting about, besides you still havn't found a reason the increase in combat is so horrible compared to sitting in orbit for 40 minutes!
If you want to play the game called DarkSpace "A Tactical COMBAT Simulator" then drop some of the building, if you want to play SIM-CITY get off DS.

Building is an intigral part of the game, its what is supposed to determine how systems are layed out, what goes on what planets & seperates the skilled & intelligent players from the not-sos... leave building as is, nerf bombing though pls...

What about having the planets initially built up by an engie ...the proper uberistic way, and have a button on build screen that sets it to autobuild in the same fashion as it was originally built should it be leveled.this button could be turned off should the tactical situation warrant a planets structures to change.

Leave Player building and bring back Remote Building but limit to Ships with Builds all Stations and Exstractors and have it work only with Planets that have Hubs on them.
