I don't care anymore. They can do whatever they want with whatever ship devices they want. I'm already not happy with all the changes made to 1.5 since it was first released. I'm not happy with the extremely low player counts as a result. Offensive dictors, defensive dictors, dictor dreads, dessie beam dictors, I don't care. There's not enough players at the time of day I play for me to care anymore.

And they also dont care about listening and taking our thoughts into consideration. There's really no point anymore

Light the difference between this thread (not deleted) and that thread (kapoof) is this was a discussion, not a frustrated rant.
so lets keep it that way.

To be back on topic,
1: Interdictor Cruisers: Prevent jump in's, 1k GU radius. (Affect - Everyone)
2: Picket Destroyer: 150gu Discharge beam (Affect - Target)
3: Planetary dictors: 2000 GU radius, prevents jump ins (Affect - Hostile)
4: Planetary Defence Bases: 400gu Discharge beam (Affect - Hostile)
Yarr dictors numa won!!!!

They dont listen? then what about that little chance to the icc shields? it had absolutly nothing to do about geja and i getting 7 or 8 people together to make a point, causing the devs to relook the shields, and actualy change (for the beter) them.
Nah, it cant have been us actualy coming up with valid points, and ways to change it, with more then just "the devs dont listen"
If it needs fixing, and you bring it up with no response, chances are, its allready being looked at, in the case of the dictor, its not an easy fix, due to the time its taking TO fix it
Tl;dr: The devs listen, and read, while some may not be the best at pr (looking at you jack ;P) they DO read the forums, and thusly, make posts. what the comunity wants, and whats good for the game, or gameplay, are two vastly different things (three if you are being picky)
In otherwords, if you honestly think the devs dont do anything, then you need to go and read the beta forums, icc shield changes, and other things, make a post, think it out, dont just complain, complaints dont fix a game. testing, thoughts on how to fix or change, and otherwise WORK needs to be put forth to help the game for the beter

With the new ballance changes to stations, why not give the cruisers dictor to the stations? they more then likely have spare room now with lower weapon counts, it would also provide a usefull safe haven for fleets, to repair, rearm, and get back into the fight faster
im a tad leery about giving a dessy a dictor beam, 150 is a short distance for a dessy, if you look at it... actualy, if i remember, 150 gu is about dreadnought length, or so (could be 50, but i havent measured this in a couple years) meaning, you have to literaly get in the dreadnoughts face to discharge, and GETTING to that range, usualy involves you going pop, as the metaphorical baloon gets stabbed with a shotgun, in the case of dessy vs dread
planet dictors having beams and a field, would be a tad overpowred, but could be done with some ballancing [ This Message was edited by: Rhiawhyn Zerinth on 2009-03-18 09:55 ]

You've brought up a good point with the stations. I'll look at the upcomming station changes before I comment on this however.
As for the dessy dictor: the reason it's a beam, and so short a beam are these easy reasons.
1. Short range on a weak platform = skill needed to use effectivly.
2. Keeps the dictor low rank
3. Gives the guy being dictored a chance to get out
4. Speaking on the beam; keeps it on one target, instead of a blanket effect.
To return to the planets, you say overpowered, I say "exactly!". Cause honestly planets suck

god, why wont this topic die :/
anyways, to refute your arguments:
The destroyer may be weak, but it is persistent and highly agile, therefore, in the hands of a decent pilot, will probally never even get hulled dictoring another ship. In addition, 2nd Rear is already a low rank for newbies to get, no need to lower it any further. Lastly, for reasons already mentioned, the target wouldn't be able to escape unless another ship pried the dictor away with a lot of effort.

EXACTLY.
The best ships to kill Dessies with are other Dessies. Ergo, if the enemy uses these dictor Dessies, you'll want your own Dessies along to take them out. Thus also addressing the Dreadspace issue.

Well no, it doesnt mean a fleet -has- to bring dictors and escorts along; inevitably the fleet with more dreads will still dominate the battlefield even if their ships can't flee.

This topic hasn't died simply because dictors are not fixed yet
Now to adress your 'refute' of what I was talkin about, jims reply is exactly and utterly correct.
And I'd bet u that a diverse fleet with a DD can beat an ead only fleet.

Thinkin on this longer, i do think this could be a good addition. but for somethign like this the station would have to lose something significant.
i also think that is should remain on the cruiser varient, but have the option of modding it onto a station.
apparently stations are getting thier 'combat effectiveness' nerfed.... cause they are made for a support role right? i chuckled when i next read that thier supply drone range was getting nerfed >.<

Dictors are worth 17 points, so they would indeed have to lose something. But while it makes sense from a "imagine how the world would work" sense and the "anchor point of a fleet" sense, I'm a bit leery to make stations that much more powerful. Maybe once the reduced combat effectiveness patch goes live and we see how they work, I'll be more easily convinced, but I'm just wary of giving stations everything. I mean, yes, it makes some sense to consolidate stuff in a ship that big. But at the same time... you can already do everything but dictor in a station.

Wait, is that true? Has it been tested? I was under the impression that the only empirical evidence we have is for dreads killing things.

I've had a number of duels at various ship-sizes, and within a given size things are balanced nicely: dessies vs dessies, cruisers vs cruisers, dreads vs dreads. It's when you mix them up that it breaks.
Smaller ships can dodge fire from bigger ships easier, but other ships of the same size can get in close and stay close to keep hitting them. So they're overall better at fighting them. Our hypothetical dictor dessie, for example, has to get in close to a Dread to dictor it, but it can then dart right back out again before the Dread can kill it. Another Dessie, though, could keep up with it and hunt it down.
