| | | | | | | | | | | | | | UGTO and ICC scientists announce that a guidance problem with IT missiles mounted on defense bases was responsible for the many deaths of base personnel. The missile when fired was exploding immediately after launch. The problem has been corrected and disciplinary action against the engineer responsible has been swift and severe. |

UGTO and ICC forces in conflict in the Luyten system encountered a very rare form of life in the Luyten gas cloud. The last recorded encounter over 50 years ago resulted in the destruction of the science ship “Saratoga”.
UGTO and ICC forces in conflict over the Luyten system put aside their differences and destroyed the “Gaifen” in self defense.
The “Gaifen” is known to feed on hydrogen, quantities which only are found in nebula and smaller gas clouds. However, it is known to be extremely territorial attacking any ships that come to close. It is not known how intelligent this creature is, but many scientists believe it is not a sentient being.

- Fixed the display glitches with Nvidia cards. This was being caused by not locking a dynamic vertex buffer correctly.
- The slowdown caused by orbiting a planet has been addressed. This has been fixed by using a dynamic vertex buffer, before we were creating static vertex buffers for each drop zone marker.
- The spawn location of the drones when building structures has been moved closer to the ship.
- The jumpgate effect has been redone.
- The Tutorial has been updated to include some additional features.
- Fixed the K'Luth ships with turning problems
- Added a CRC check before downloading the catalog, which should save everyone alot of download time if nothing has changed

| | | | | | | The build process for structures has changed. Engineering ships must stay in orbit while building a structure, however the build times has been reduced to 10-30 seconds depending on the type of structure. Additionally, all resources for the structure must be available on the planet. The ability to move resources from one planet to another is still not implemented, should be working tomorrow.
Additionaly, version checks are now made against the server, so you cannot join a server of a different version. |

| | | | | | | The latest code and data update is up. The primary change was an internal change, to make it alot easier to change weapons and systems attached to the ships, but ultmiately this means less bugs for you.
- Fighter AI is now functional, still not completed, but they will now move and fire at enemy ships. Object advoidance and friendly fire check still need to be added.
- Update optimizations, which means a much smoother frame rate and less CPU usage, this applies to servers as well. This is about a 50% decrease in processor usage.
- Fixed a memory leak in which texture data was not being released after creating the texture. This resulted in a improved frame rate for the game and much smaller memory footprint.
- Fixed a crash bug with our tree code, which was causing many of the crashes from DarkSpace.

| | | | | | | If haven't noticed yet, the DarkSpace official site has been redesigned by Oliver Poetzelberger (aka Feivel), who does web design out of Austria. Many thanks to Olvier for doing an great job.

| | | | | | | Due to constant crashes with the SQL server, we upgraded it to a more stable version. We apologize for the time the servers were down this morning, but hopefully everything will be much more stable now. |
| | | |
| | | | | | | A new update will go up at 4:00 PM CST today which will change the network code. This means all game servers need to be restarted after this time to get the update, no clients will be able to connect to your server without this update.
uranus.palestar.com will be testing the new code until then, so any attempts to connect to that server will fail.

| | | | | | | The first tutorial is now up, however it will continue to go through some tweaking before it's considered final. This week we are hoping to finish up several new items for DarkSpace:
- The GameCQ interface is undergoing a major overhaul, addtionally getting it to a feature complete state is the ultimate goal for this week.
- Chat commands in game will also be added this week, which will include the target, area, and faction chat commands. Additionally, the ability for moderators to kick and ban from within the game is high priority.
- AI for fighters and space monsters are a huge goal that we would like to get started on this week. Additionally, we would like to add a fighter bomber to some ships, they would be equipped with mirv bombs for attacking planets or other ships.
- We will begin on code for universe (linked) servers.

| | | | | | | We found a pretty major bug in the update code, which was causing many people some problems. The bug had to do with the time/date not being set correctly on downloaded files, which in turn forced those files to be downloaded again. This has now been fixed, however you might need to reboot a couple more times to get all your files up to date.
We have just added a scripting language to DarkSpace, called Lua, for those of you who might wish to create your own scenerios you can go ahead and brush up on the language syntax by going to www.lua.org. A scenerio editor is in the works, and might be available towards the end of this month.
A message box has been added to the server, this allow you to send a message to all connected players. Nice and handy to let them know your fixing to shutdown. |
