Playnet.com to host DarkSpace
- Posted on Dec 07 2001, 16:21:37 by Faustus
Bedford, Texas, December 7th, 2001. Playnet Inc. and Palestar Inc. are announcing that the upcoming pay-for-play release of the massively multiplayer online game, DarkSpace will be available at the online game destination, Playnet.com.

DarkSpace takes place in a tumultuous universe of political infighting, economic sanctions and diplomatic posturing. All of the major factions have definite hostility towards one another, but a few splinter outposts are staying neutral, at least initially, to determine their best interest. In the midst of turmoil and civil unrest, players start as an ensign, piloting smaller craft and will eventually work their way up to a grand admiral controlling a capital ship and plotting maneuvers in one of the three initial factions.

Hundreds of players will join together online in a fast paced struggle for mankind's destiny. Individual mission goals will vary and successful completion of objectives will alter the galaxy toward that faction's favor. The galaxy can be altered directly by concerted player effort. By cooperation within a faction or group, players will achieve scenario objectives and push back the rival factions. Random events are possible and will definitely require player cooperation to save the chosen faction from obliteration.

The DarkSpace universe is alive with many different subplots. Humans are the dominant species of each beginning scenario, but more advanced scenarios will feature diverse alien races and advanced technologies. Numerous neutral characters will focus on their own agendas in this seemingly crowded galaxy and the player will be forced to deal with circumstances that this creates.

Playnet.com's Executive Producer Al Corey said, 'We are very excited to be adding DarkSpace to our lineup of games and launching this terrific independent title. DarkSpace has a huge following and we look forward to serving the players.'

Richard Lyle, Palestar President and Lead Programmer commented on the partnership, 'All of us at Palestar and those who have helped us along the way are very pleased to join Playnet in this partnership to bring DarkSpace to the masses. We are very appreciative of the large fan support for our debut title and hope that the final launch and forthcoming new factions and scenarios will be worth the wait.'

DarkSpace will be available at Playnet.com starting December 17th, 2001 for a $9.99 monthly subscription. The DarkSpace client is a FREE download and offers both a tutorial and a demo mode to preview the game experience. Visit www.playnet.com or www.DarkSpace.net for more details.

- Posted on Dec 02 2001, 14:51:38 by Vinco
At approximately 15:50 EST, December 2, the noble forces of the ICC eradicated the last UGTO presence on the planets of the sol system. This system was the last holdout of the decadent UGTO, ripe for liberation by the ICC. With the final revolt of Mercury against their UGTO oppressors, the entire metaverse is controlled by the ICC. This will usher in a new golden age of prosperity for all of mankind.
