| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Version 1.3 will go online on Monday, January 14th to allow for more testing of the new trading code on the beta testing servers. Almost all the features have been completed, with the exception of the interface for planetary management which will be done tomorrow.
Additionally, a prestige gain bug has been fixed in 1.3 which is keeping demo players from gaining prestige on ladder servers.

| | | | | | | Austin, Texas, January 10th, 2002. Palestar Inc. and Playnet Inc. announced Thursday that a free trial for the massively multiplayer online game DarkSpace will begin January 11th, 12:00CST and run until January 18th, 12:00CST. During the free trial, ALL DarkSpace account holders will be able to play with no limitations, and will have the ability to gain prestige, rank, and join all available servers.
“We believe those who have not subscribed or played the demo version will be blown away once they have the opportunity to play the full version of our game,” commented Richard “Faustus” Lyle, Palestar’s President and Lead Programmer.
Additionally, all new subscriptions after January 18th will receive a 7-day free trial before the first charge occurs. During this free trial period, players will be able to experience the full game and cancel their subscription before the end of the 7 days.
DarkSpace can be downloaded from www.darkspace.net.

| | | | | | | Due to the rough start after going pay-to-play for DarkSpace, we have gained fewer subscribers than we anticipated.
We ask that everyone who can; spread the word about this game and help us get enough subscribers so that we can continue development. PaleStar is a very small company, and doesn’t have available the resources some larger game makers have, such as a marketing department and money. This means, we have to rely on you 'The Players' to spread the word about our little game.

| | | | | | | We anticipate that Version 1.3 will release on January 11th, 2002. The update will be automatically downloaded by the auto-update; we will also be creating a new installer for those playing DarkSpace for the first time, which will be available for download from our mirror sites.
- TRADING will now be possible in DarkSpace. You will be able to trade with planets and other players in game.
- A new STAR PORT structure will be introduced.
- SHIP CUSTOMIZATION will allow players to customize their ships.
- SHIP CAPTURING is now possible.
- New K’Luth dreadnaught, frigate, and cruiser configurations will be introduced.
- Players will gain 100% prestige in the MetaVerse.
- Increased stability; many crash and memory leak fixes have been implemented.
Testing of this new code is already underway, so for a preview just select DarkSpace – BETA from the LOBBY button.

| | | | | | | If you want to help test new code, simply click select the 'DarkSpace - BETA' lobby from the 'Lobby' button at the top of GameCQ. All players will be allowed to play, however server space will be limited and demo players will still have the same restrictions.
We anticipate having a new code update to be beta tested later today or early next week. If you decide you would like to beta test the new code, then you'll get to see what new features are being added before everyone else; however this will mean you'll get to do more downloading so it's not recommended for 56k modem users.

| | | | | | | Many of you would like to know what's going to be added in the coming weeks, we've have lots of additions in store for you...
Firstly, implementation has already begun on trading and planetary economics. This means, planets will gain real needs and use resources just like in the real world. Thusly, players will be allowed to earn CREDITS by transporting food to a barren mining outpost, and then transporting metals and other goods back to sell for profit. Additionally, Star ports will be introduced, which will automatically launch freighters carrying goods from one planet to another, meeting requirements for goods when no players are available for transport.
What good is money, if you can't spend it. Ship refits will be introduce which allows players to spend their hard earned credits. Upgrade your CL300 to CL500, and so on.
In addition, player missions are planned for the Metaverse, which will generate automatically based on conditions in the game. For example, if a plague erupts on Mycopia, a mission would be generated to transport a medical team from a nearby planet.
Note: All previous beta testers can help test the new trading and economic code starting sometime within the next 2 weeks. Keep you checking the 'General' forum on details on how to setup for getting the BETA code and data updates.
