Version 1.44 Release...

A new update for Version 1.4 has been released, which corrects several bugs and adds a few new features.



- The ELF Beam is now available to the K'Luth, which can be used to drain energy from another enemy ship.

- The EMP device has been redone to cause moe internal damaged when used. The range has been reduced from 500gu to 250gu.

- The ICC now the SABOT Rocket added to their technology tree.

- Ship AI code has been improved to allow the Jump Drive to be used. This means, you can orbit a distant planet, and the AI will automatically use the jump drives to get to the destination. This improvement also applies to AI transports for the star ports.

- A bug with the trade route code has been fixed to allow trade routes to be created for all planets to all other friendly planets.

- Audio device is no longer required to play DarkSpace.

- Planet lock code has been improved, to prevent structures from being scraped or disabled when the planet is locked.



We are going to address balance and CTD issues all next week, and release those in version 1.45 later this week.

Version 1.4 Released

Austin, TX, March 20th, 2002. Palestar is happy to announce the release of version 1.4 of DarkSpace, which adds many new features and fixes.



- Planets now have a TECHNOLOGY TREE, which allows the planet to build structures, units, and devices before not available.

- New PLANET MANAGEMENT INTERFACE allows players to easily control their planets unit production, structures, technology development, and trade routes.

- Barracks now use a build queue to control which and how many units to build.

- Factories can produce ship parts, and use a build queue similar to the barracks.

- The new COLONY HUB structure allows you to colonize barren planets, and provides the central hub for your planet. You control all technology research and development by selecting this structure.

- HABITAT DOMES are now available which allow you to increase to maximum population of your planet.

- The new HYDRO FARM produces food for your population to grow.

- The new FUSION GENERATOR and SOLAR GENERATOR structures produce power for your planets infrastructure.

- RESEARCH LABS increase the rate at which your planet can do research and development.

- The user interface has been revamped to be user friendly.

- The penalty for stripping ships for their parts to build more powerful ships at the jump gate has been GREATLY increased.

- CREDITS are now required to buy goods from the star port.

With the vast number of submissions we receive, it's sometimes hard to devote the proper amount of time to adequately review all games; when the game an massively multiplayer, it's even more difficult. Luckily it isn't hard to know a good game when you see one.


XP Update Problem...

A new update has been put online for DarkSpace. This update corrects a problem with some XP machines stalliing during the update process.

Version 1.3 Development Update...

Version 1.3 has been patched with ship cost limitations implemented. This means, players will need to capture, hold, and build up planets to access some of the larger ships such as the cruiser and dreadnaught.



- All structures now have increased hull points, making them harder to destroy by bombing.

- All faction defense bases have been refitted with more missiles and beam weapons for point defense.

- The ICC dreadnaught now has railguns.
