| | | | | | | We will be releasing a new server-side patch later today that will finally fix the network code stability issues. The problem, as always, was a simple bug that was causing the servers to crash and thus disconnecting all the clients. Thanks to everyone yesterday who got on the servers, and delt with the very annoying crashes, those logs helped in finding the cause of the crashes.
Thanks to everyone for their patience. |
| | | |
| | | | | | | We are now testing the stability of the network code in beta, if you would like to help the download the beta client from the Downloads page and join in the action. The new network code needs to be tested with as many players as possible so we can make sure it is stable before it is released.

| | | | | | | The next version, 1.479 will be release on Monday August 26th. See the Development Log for full details on the changes in this release.
- Jump Drives now take longer to recharge and consume more fuel for larger ships. This is a HUGE improvement in balance for the smaller ships since they have now have a much faster recharge rate and longer range than before. Additionally, the jump velocity has been increase dramatically to imrprove the playability of the MetaVerse.
- Grouping now awards full prestige and is no longer scaled. This means, players can increase their prestige gain dramatically by forming groups in-game. This change should encourage team-play and help new players into the DarkSpace universe.
- Sever stability has been improved, which is the real reason why this version is being released more quickly than normal.
- All torpedo weapons track now, including the ICC fusion torpedo and the K'Luth AM torpedo.

| | | | | | | Version 1.477 will be released next Tuesday, August 6th 2002. This version includes some major changes, features, and fixes.
- The Interface has been overhauled and made much more user friendly. Context sensitive help has been added for all the interfaces in game. Additionally, new icons for features previously only available by hot keys have been added. A new font is now being used, making the text much more readable and clear. Lastly, two new camera modes have been added, TACTICAL camera shows your ship and target from above, and the much requested FOLLOW camera mode.
- The K’Luth cloaking device has been made more limited to correct irreconcilable balance problems with that faction. This much-debated change was done for the long-term betterment of the game. This change required the addition of armor to all K’Luth ships.
- Several new moderator and administrator commands have been added. Moderators can now do their job better and easier.
Check the Development Log for full details on what has been changed in this release.

| | | | | | | Weston, CT – July 15, 2002 – Got Game Entertainment and Palestar today announced a publishing agreement for “DarkSpace,” a massively multiplayer online strategy game that puts the player in command of a massive starship. The retail version will incorporate new levels of game play, as well as offer a one-month free trial subscription.
The arrangement between Palestar and Got Game Entertainment was negotiated by Los Angeles based Psychosys, a boutique firm specializing in interactive entertainment consulting.
David Klein, Vice President of third party broker, Psychosys, was instrumental in putting the deal together. “Richard Lyle, president of Palestar, and his team wanted a publisher who would really get behind and support the game. Got Game has exhibited tremendous commitment to all its titles, so we felt this would be a great match.”
DarkSpace takes place in a universe splintered by intergalactic war. Humanity has split into two hostile factions, while a new hostile alien race advances into human space. In the midst of turmoil and civil unrest, players start as an midshipman, piloting smaller craft and will eventually work their way up to a fleet admiral controlling a massive capital ship and plotting strategic maneuvers in one of the three initial factions.
The DarkSpace universe is alive with many new different subplots. Humans are the dominant species of each beginning scenario, but more advanced scenarios will feature diverse alien races and advanced technologies. Numerous players will focus on their own agendas in this seemingly crowded galaxy and the player will be forced to deal with the circumstances that this creates.
“We are excited to be entering the massively multiplayer world with what we believe to be a particularly well-crafted and well-run game,” said Got Game Entertainment president, Howard Horowitz. “The Palestar team keeps the game fresh and evolving which was key to our publishing decision.”

This free trial occurs after the release of version 1.476, which added several new features and fixes to DarkSpace. The server and client code has been greatly stabilized as well.
|
| | | |
| | | | | | | Version 1.476 will be released tomorrow, July 12th at 11:00AM CST. This release may require all servers to be offline for up to 1 hour, as we are updating the main servers. Check the Development Log for full details on the changes contained in this release.
- Beta code is now tested in a seperate lobby, with seperate prestige, rank, ship and item storage. This will require those wishing to continue beta testing to download and install a special beta client which will be available in the downloads section tomorrow.
- All client configuration information has been moved to a config.ini file located in your DarkSpace install directory. This change, will require you accept the EULA again, and run setup again after you have downloaded the new update. Lobby emotions are the only item imported from the registry into the config.ini.
- You can now password protect your chat room. However, moderators can enter password protected chat rooms without knowing the password.
- Chat rooms can now be moderated, which means all players who enter the room are automatically muted.
- The lobby has undergone an interface overhaul. You'll notice several new buttons, and some buttons have been moved to be more intutive.
- /away and /back commands have been implemented. Players who are idle for more than 5 minutes or minimize the lobby window are automatically set away, greying their icon in the lobby.
