Router Problem
- Posted on October 8th, 2003 - 09:28 by Faustus
Prismnet our co-location provider is experiencing a router problem. This router is causing high packet loss, which is resulting in very slow connections to the game servers and the web server. We expect the problem will be resolved shortly.

Update: Router problem is now fixed.
Email validation...
- Posted on October 3rd, 2003 - 08:49 by Faustus
Until recently, anyone could create a DarkSpace account, provide a valid or invalid email address and go play the demo version of DarkSpace. Unfortunately, we have ended up with lots of invalid email addresses in our database and bounced emails back in our inbox from clan annoucments and our mailings (which we rarely do anyone for those of you concerned about getting spammed).

We are now requiring a validated email address to join or create a fleet. Starting October 31st, we will also require a validated email address to play on the DEMO servers or be a clan administrator. Just to be clear, ALL CLAN ADMINS WITH INVALID EMAIL ADDRESSES WILL BE DEMOTED ON OCTOBER 31ST!

Existing accounts can validate their email address by clicking on the Edit Profile link in their player profile page. You have until October 31st to validate your email address, otherwise you will lose access to join the DEMO servers.

Offline Messages now by email
- Posted on September 29th, 2003 - 12:26 by Faustus
We just finished implementation of a new system that will email your offline messages. This option is disabled by default, you can enable this option by editing your profile and clicking on the "Email Offline Messages" checkbox. If enabled, the server will check for messages every 15 minutes and send you an email if you have any messages waiting.

NOTE: If you do not see the checkbox, then your email address hasn't been validated yet. Click on the "Validate Email" button at the bottom of the "Edit Profile" page to send a validation email to your current email address. Once the email arrives, simply click on the URL contained in the email. Once your email is validated, the "Email Offline Messages" checkbox will be visible.

Late Charge Notice
- Posted on September 9th, 2003 - 14:01 by Faustus
Due to changes with our payment gateway authorized charges for subscribers who pay using VISA or MC may see those charges appear on 9/8/2003 instead of the date of authorization.

This delay was caused by new regulations enacted by VISA, which required our merchant account to be located in the same country as the business. We apologize for any inconvenience or confusion caused by this delay in billing.

- Posted on August 19th, 2003 - 16:42 by Faustus
Our ISP is fixing their backup system, so the servers will go down at 4:00AM CST on 8/20/2003. The servers should be down for only 10 minutes, but it may take as long as an hour.
ICC influence felt through out the Metaverse
- Posted on August 19th, 2003 - 14:39 by Tael
The ICC fleets managed to subdue the combined armada's of the K'Luth and UTGO forces and brought about a period of peace and prosperity to the known universe.

Having held the metaverse for several hours, the ICC was determined to have a strong hold over the universe and as such the entire metaverse was reset to a neutral state.

Who will control all of known space next?
Internet Worm Affects Windows NT/2000/XP/2003
- Posted on August 12th, 2003 - 10:18 by Selvarian {IMC}
In the last 24-48 hours, an Internet worm has started making the rounds, exploiting a recent vulnerability in the DCOM-RPC service in Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows 2003. If your computer is exhibiting strange behavior, such as giving messages about RPC errors and shutting down on its own in about a minute after reporting a bunch of strange messages, then you are most likely being affected by it. Updating your virus scanner may not be of much use, as the worm will continue to attempt to re-infect your computer as long as the vulnerability exists. Updating your firewall MAY help, but the recommended solution is to IMMEDIATELY download and install the following patch:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-026.asp

Also, if you are affected, a removal tool is here:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.html

Note that systems not connected to the Internet will not be affected by the worm, but should still be patched anyway as a precaution.
