ICC have been completely pushed out of the MV.

The ICC were completely pushed out of the Metaverse by a combined force of Kluth/UGTO today. Since then they seem to have disappeared into deep space and cannot be located by any of the Kluth or UGTO sensor systems.

As a result the Metaverse has gone completley into a state of chaos and havoc.

There will be a reset of all systems to occur within the next 12 hours or before 18:00 hrs GMT.

New NA Region Administrator: Mithrandir aka Shigernafy

It's about time!!

The Admin clan of PaleStar welcomes to its ranks long-time player (ID #29!), moderator, and developer Shigernafy.

This esteemed individual has contributed large amounts of improvements to DarkSpace's chat interface coding, mainly in the area of the website. Among his accomplishments are new Private Message management tools, and new forum management tools, making all of our lives immensely easier.

He's been behind the scenes for over three years, slowly influencing the game as he has moved up through the staff ranks, now reaching the pinnacle, at least materialistically, of his DarkSpace career. We are extremely proud to promote Shig, so do him a favor and tell him how happy you are to have him as one of your new NA Community Admins.

Send your congratulations his way!

MV Back Up And DS Radio Returns!

With the intervention of Faustus, the MV - and day for many gamers - was saved today as the MV is now back up and ready to go. Players everywhere rejoiced when the news reached them.

And in completely unrelated news, DS Radio has been resurrected! New DJ's have also been assigned to help with DS Radio making the DJ team as follows:
DJ Trag, DJ Depth, DJ Reverend Macktastic Jack Beautiful, and DJ Demorian.

Currently we have two streams going and you can listen in if you have Winamp:

DS Radio Stream One and

DS Radio Stream Two.

Beta Update may affect Release...

Some players are still using the Beta servers while playing the release version. Due to the upcoming beta patch, this may make it impossible for the release version of the game to connect to the beta servers.

If you have trouble connecting to DarkSpace, please edit your config.ini file found in your DarkSpace directory and delete the line that begins with "metaAddress=". This will connect you automatically to the release servers.

The combined forces of the ICC and UGTO have wiped the universe clean of the alien menance. Humanity is now safe from destruction. The MV has been reset, all structures/units have been wiped and all planets set back to neutral. Ship storage is NOT affected.

Server Problems...

We experienced some server problems this morning, starting off with the breaker at our ISP tripping and cutting off power to all our machines. Once we got the machines back online, we found out that the database and Metaverse maps had been corrupted due to the power failure. We repaired the database, however we had to upload a new Metaverse map since it could not be repaired.

The new Metaverse map is 31+ systems in size. We had planned to use this map when 1.481 was released but due to some early problems with CPU usage, we fell back to a simpler smaller map. Now that the CPU usage and load-balance issues have been resolved, we have moved over to this bigger and newer map created by our very own "Reason".

UPDATE: The power went out again at 1AM this morning, and the servers did not come back online until around 10AM this morning. The faulty powerstrip has been replaced, and another strip has been added to split the load.
