Website Update

Massive Website Update....

I've re-factored the entire website for DarkSpace, seperating the common PHP code off into a seperate location so it can be shared between multiple websites.



Several new features have been added, mostly giving the admins the ability to edit anything contained in the database, so many of these changes are transparent and hidden from the normal player.



Many of you may notice some problems, as we continue to work the kinks out of the new PHP code. Please be patient while we fix those problems. SPEAK ANOTHER LANGUAGE? We need help in keeping the other languages of the website maintained (i.e. Many months since any of the news for the other languages has been updated). If you'd like to help, please contact an admin.
MV Reset in 24 Hours

The Metaverse will be reset October 31st at 5:00 p.m. CST. The Kluth have until this time to completely take over the MV.

XP SP2 Crash Fixed...

We just uploaded a fix for those experiencing a crash under Windows XP with Service Pack 2. If your lobby is crashing or locking up when you attempt to enter the lobby you will either have to repair the installation by running your DarkSpace installer or uninstall and reinstall the game with the 1.482 installer.



The crash/lockup was caused by the additional security SP2 added against buffer overflows, this was conflicting with our memory allocator.



NOTE: This may affect other windows versions as well, especially those who have installed hotfixes from Microsoft.

Version 1.4826 Released...

This update contains some significant optimizations to the collision detection code. These changes, should help to reduce lag in the MV with large numbers of players as our collision detection was using 75% of the CPU previously.
Free trial

We've started a Free play trial. Trial starts on Sept. 29, 2004, and ends on Oct 13, 2004.

Also, Admiral will be down for the duration, and Newbie Server will be down, at least temporarily. We want everyone to give the Metaverse a try.

A new patch has been released to address additional lag and connection issues for low-bandwidth players. We have implemented an entirely new priority based queue for handling how data is sent to the clients. Additional, changes can be found as always, in the Development Log.



The Admiral server is down for the day to encourage everyone to play the Metaverse and stress test the new systems. The "Metaverse Connection" poll has been reset, please revote after trying out the new code.
