well, the first titles who came in my mind were

- DarkSpace-Planetcontrol
- DarkSpace-Planet-Wars

but, then i was think it over again

what should be the goal ot the tiltle
to "hold the veteran's in - "oh, the saga continues"
to get new player in and tell them "there was something before"

so, here my new suggestions

- DarkSpace-Ground-Approach
- DarkSpace-Surface-Battles
- DarkSpace-Surface-Operations (my favorite)
- DarkSpace-Invasion-Alert

what do you think??

I'm stuck between Darkspace-Invasion and Darkspace-Battleground. But how about this:

How about having the ability of getting a ship below the defensive cover of the Defense Bases and able to rain fire inside the atmosphere (a la Star Trek: New Worlds).

Obviously you couldn't do this at a wim (I think it only happened once in the whole New Worlds game). But imagine looking up and seeing a Torpedo Cruiser letting loose

DarkSpace - Space Invaders?
first hing that popt in me mind. its a bit of silly. But I like it.

The Space Marine Idea I like alot, but I would also like to see this get worked out for onboard ship combat boarding parties.
Its just an idea, bit more details below.

What if there was some sort of waiting lobby were people and there squad will be waiting for the next best trooper beamup or fesh transport to spawn from the home jump gate (spawn pool).

As soon as one spawn or gets beamed up the troopers in the waiting lobby room would be loaded abourd the ship.

Ships would be needing bleu prints to battle on with in the FPS DS trooper game.
For boarind parties and ship take overs should then be implanted by then I hope.

Every player is a squad leader, he controlls 11 AI controlled troopers. Every time the Squad Leader dies he will Spawn in to one of the remaining AI controlled trooper what will continue to asume command of the troopers. Once the last trooper gets shot up (what would be the player) he will respawn back in the waiting lobby. This is the simple version for low amount of players. If there are big amount of players 11 players and a squad leader would be one infranty unit.

Squads should be able to see whats happening out side, by either port views or some thing els for you don't want them to get borred while there is traveling from point A to B.

Squad leaders should be albe to talk to the pilot to seek out his mission and the other way around.

I can go on and on about this, but i think the main idea has bin dropped in the basket.


I also saw some thing about what kind of game engine this game should be running?.. I would go for tribes.. Its the best for planet surface battle's with no borders to run in to. A wonderfull engine.
Easy modding, easy map building.

I'm intrigued by this idea, but I have some pretty foolish questions to clarify things for me:

1. Whose controlling the troops? Not me If I dropped them. Leaving the helm to go to the Navigation screen is risky during a capture mission, going to the planet to fight and leaving my ship in orbit would be suicide. . .probably not me then leading the troops...so...um...who?

2. All those battle ready troops sitting in the belly of a Dreadnaught...all those DS Invader players ready for the assault. Suddenly 4 EAD's appear and Carve a giant hole in your side. A second salvo leaves you dead. . . Invasion over, all troops lost on board. Bummer for the Invaders if they get a bad captain or get ambushed.

3. Once on the ground, ship safely out of range of the Planetary Defenses. The troops are ready, the battle plan is set. Suddenly a Proton Cruise Missle streaks in from 300 gu in space. You and your troops are instantly vaporized. (Actually, that would be cool...)

Just curious. I was thinking about this awhile back, how it would be cool to become the infantry Capping a planet. Think its a great idea...

Okay, some thoughts:

This should be a First Person Shooter. That way people who want constant action rather than strategy can play this, and the Fleet Game can drift towards strategy more without upsetting our action oriented players.

Players are not part of the regular military. They are some sort of futuristic special forces. They can fight in large army style enguagements, if nesseary.

When not in these kind of actions, they can get missions from the Fleet Admirals (or whomever) for some kind of covert mission. The player would be flown to the planet, conduct the mission, and get out. Since no planets are being conquored during this, there wouldn't be major disruptions to the MV.

However, here is where we can drop the need making a buildable unit for spying or sabotage. Send in the players! They can sabotage individual instillations, assasinate important leaders, get intellegence on the enemy location or technology, rescue hostages, and even more. Since these are covert missions, players would be arriving in AI controlled transports for secrecy. This removes dependance on player controlled ships for transit. Also, counter missions could be spawned for the opposing faction. That way it could come to player vs player, with AI thrown in on either or both sides if nessesary. Successful and failed missions would be posted automatically in the news for factions, to let players have a sense of accomplishment.

I think with this setup players could be integrated in the MV constantly, but also have a constant stream of activities to conduct.

i think this would be more or less a sequel?

or how are you going to integrate it into the game...?! have Invaders players wait for someone to actually invade? and you got payed Invaders players when 20 inf are dropped on 16 to fill up all the slots? and what pilot would want the outcome of a invasion defined by the FPS skills of some counterstrike players?!

has anyone played the X-Com series?
now kind of combat simulation would fit in..

amusing.

Actually I liked the post with DarkSpace - Ground Assault the best, it has a way better sound to it than "Invader" reminds me of the old dos game lol. Besides Ground Assualt really says it all doesn't it?
