Search & Rescue

Visa Abmiral Phrasers Yaught was traveling through the X System on its way to pleasure world X in the Y system. Phrasers Aids have reported that he has failed to arrived at World X and are starting to get concerned.

Fly through System X and Y and look out for any signs of the Admirals ship. He may simply have engine trouble in which case you will need to call for a support ship to aid the Abmiral or it may have crash landed on a planet and a resue would be required.

Report to the Admirals aids on pleasure planet X once you have completed your mission.

Escort:

A high ranking member of the X factions command staff is will be traveling to a secret meeting with other important officals shortly. His ship requires protection during this trip. Escort the VIP's ship safely to Planet X in System Y.

Transfer:

A prototype fighter is under construction on Planet X in the Y system. The team working on the new fighter require an AM drive be picked up from Planet Y in the X System and delivered to planet X.

It is known that the enemy is searching for the planet where the new prototype is being built. Avoid detection during your return journey or destroy any ships that are following you before heading for planet X.

If you are unable to shake the persuing ship, proceed to Planet V in System V where local forces will deal with them.

Its a bit off topic, but it has to do with the scouting mission.

ATM its easy money, and just fly from location A to planet B get reward and get out of there if its in hostile space.

People use scout missions to make easy money, I don't blame them but I do think scouting missions should be more then just planet scouting.

Idea's:
Scouting
Scout missions, area in space:
If enemy was detected exiting a FTL jump or last know location before it went of radar with in 5000gu near a scout it could get a mission to check it out. (if it asks for it)
Getting points for getting to the waypoint (include risk money), points for every hostile ship with in 2500gu of the location that is detected. Points could be based on ship mass.

**Enemy detected at grid X,Y, xxxxgu away from your location. Check it out and report back asap** (timer 2 to 4 minutes based on distance till mission fail)

**Lost track of enemy forces at grid X,Y xxxxgu away from your current location. Check it out and report back asap** (timer 2 to 4 minutes based on distance till mission fail)

Scout mission, at planets.
Scouting around a friendly planet should have a LOW reward. Scouting a enemy planet should have a higher reward (risk money). Scouting at a hostile planet should have 3 waypoints. A start location, planet location, get to safty location xxxxgu away from planet, upon reaching the last location the mission will be completed and rewarded.
Any hostile ships detected near the planets should also be rewarded in credits bassed on ship mass.

**Signature spike detected near planet, at grid X,Y. Go check it out and report back any findings. ** (friendly planets)

**Intell needs recon information from planet, fly to grid X,Y. Scan the area, and get to safty to report back your findings** (hostile planets)

I hope this helps,

Bit off topic again,

The mission system could get more active with less requesting for a mission. A blinking incoming message/mission indicator with a sounds to make players more aware.

example,
Scouting, if I would be running around in a scout and busy with some things there is a very big change I won't notice the jumping with in 5000gu of hostiles, for enemy ships passing by are very common.
If there could be some sort of active mission system that would call upon players to do some thing. Like people in a scout to go check out area's in space.

Combat ships would get the search and te destroy mission to this area (could get triggen once a scout accepted the mission to recon the area)

The more active mission system could be seen as a proximity alert as well for scouts, for the will be called upon to scout an area were hostiles were spotted, if possible it could trigger a search and destroy mission for combat ships, this could trigger a support mission for supplies as well and much more. (Attaching it to a max range of the mission area, or it might give people on the other side of space to got to that area and fly 160sec's on FTL... )

When a planet is attacked Hostile or friendly, transports could be called upon for backup troopers.

Mission will not be used much when it comes during player activities in battle's raids or planet capping. Having a more active mission system could get people moving to the area's where the action is and people are having fun, sort of boosting team play.

its an idea, and I fear its will take more time coding it than I needed to cook this up for with in DS...

A well, a thought

Forgive me for posting. I havn't played the game yet, (plan to sign up as soon as my wife raises my allowance, lol) but I have some mission thoughts. IMHO if you linked a couple of mission types together it would bring a sense of fufillment, not to mention a nice common goal for a group. Examples:

SCOUT: "Message from C&C, you are to proceed to (place coords or system here). There have been reports of unidentified vessels in the area that the Admiral want a scout in the area.Contact C&C if you find anything in the area worth reporting."
Scout "A" would arrive in the area an find a drifting vessel. Scout "A" would report to C&C and would recieve:

DESTROY: "This is C&C, per the Admiral Nuteralize hostiles in the area. After the area is secure, report to C&C for further instructions." Apon securing the area, the next message would read:

CAPTURE: "This is C&C, capture the vessel and return it to (insert coords or system) for evaluation" Once someone captures the vessel:

ESCORT: "C&C to vessels in the area of (insert coords or system), priority mission. Escort the captured enemy vessel to (insert coords or system). It is vital that the enemy vessel make it back for examination."

Sorry for invading the realm of the players, but I think it's atleast an idea for consideration.

Actually Roof, that's a very good idea, and you needn't be afraid to post.. especially on topics like this, where playing is not necessary a prerequisite. (other topics, such as balance, of course, might need some experience). And actually, we have ideas like that already in the planning.. or similar to that.

Another nice thing is that while you get the escort mission, the enemy faction will tend to get a destroy mission to keep you from suceeding.. and there are usually defend missions for the escorter, etc... so it can get quite complicated, and involved.. at least in theory.

Thanks again for the submissions, everyone (though I wonder how many grannie denture loss missions we'll have..)
