the idea is nice but making getting money for dreads more difficult wont help.
it will only delay fleet forming.
and why fly cruisers in MV if you can fly dreads??
with all these "super combat planets" all around youll need the armor and the huill of a dread (increases your change of survival a bit)
and dreads arent a problem in MV only in scenario. ( offcourse if you start to fight dreads in destroyers then you will wlays lose )( thats like holding back the occean with a piece of paper)
BUT like i said the idea of needing to build a shipyard before you can gat big ships is good.
but this wont work in scenario so Faustus will have to develop 2 diffrent codes. ( read somewhere a while ago that he didnt wanna do that ) ( but i could be wrong )

Well, here's my (super-noob) opinions on this.
Limit: I'm kinda undecided on the server limit, I know you need one, but it seems unfair. Once the limit is reached, it will quickly descend into a battle of 'Destroy 1 piece of their base so we can build one on ours!'. Maybe a limit per planet or moon in each system would be more appropriate.
Upkeep: There needs to be some sort of upkeep cost involved, especially when you start building the super bases.
Size Limit: If you can arm these things with defense pieces, you definately need to have a size limit on the platform or it will just be too deadly. You should impose an upper size limit on each platform.
As far as pieces go, here's what I think should be there.
Starport (for importing/selling resources from other planets)
Mining Bay (for launching AI miners to gather resources?)
Factory
Power Generators
Defense Platforms
- Point Defense
- Missiles
- Fighters
- Cannons
Training Bays
Depot
Scanners (ECM/ECCM)
These all should be lesser than their planetary equivilant, a platform barracks would train troops slower than a planetary one, a depot would reload/repair slower than a planetary one, etc.

Some should be better in space. (Depots and def platforms)
And no no size limit. let the server limit limit the size.
just stay away if dont want to die

acually, i think platforms should be better than planetary counterparts, but planets can do things platforms cant, such as mining, this would make a kind of relationship between planets and platforms, the planets provide the resources, and the platforms provide the repairing and defenses and stuff

i think platform construction should be the job of command dreads. I mean come on they dont have any other good use

no, only command dreads and the most advanced engineer should be able to use them, i mean if only command dreads can build platforms, that would royally screw the ICC and espeically Kluth due to that most their members cant even PILOT command dreads

Simple solution:
Make:
ICC Assault dread
UGTO Elite Assault dread
KLUTH Siphon
For admirals
And make
ICC Command dread
UGTO Command dread
KLUTH Gangila (i think this is the KLuth command dread)
For Vice admiral.
this way you wont get newb stations.

How's this for limitations...
In MV, make space stations belong to a fleet (clan). Make them cost credit upkeep. Planets should pay credits to the owning fleet and stations should cost upkeep.
Make it so that you can have perhaps one station module per average sized planet (cost wise).
This could then lead to whole bunch of economy and politics offshoots, like for example have fleet treasury and the ability for fleets to tax their members.

If you make these stations and maybe as well Dwardens tguboats, then i think stations you can build inside asteroids would be nice as well
