You can play EVE now

Nobody plays Eve. They just ride along.

I like the general idea of customisation but it should not be to craft items which cause balance issues. The existing framework of enhancements especially the unique ones could (perhaps) most easily be adapted to this role.

Buying enhancements as now would have to stay but there could be a way to 'craft' your own set of weapon coolers, say, from certain materials found on certain planets which would take a much longer period of time. A planet would have to be owned by a certain faction and have an allegiance of minimum 5 or 8 before any orbital enhancement production could be attempted. Eg Owning a planet with hypermatter could allow an engineer in orbit to make engine tuners, metals would allow for weapon multiplexers and so on. Some common resources would make minor enhancements whereas rarer resources. could be used to make the uniques. Perhaps a pilots' construction prestige/or construction badges allowed them to craft the next 'level' of enhancements but never above the existing set already in Darkspace eg normally to a max of 6% but platinum construction badge could allow making the 'uniques', with the correct resources.
This would bring back a proper use for planetary resources, especially if those could be picked up and transported from planet to planet as a seperate entity from regular resources to aid construction of a certain enhancement. Eg each enhancement would be made up of ingredients or a mix of say

eg Minor Weapon Cooler
10,000 hypermatter
25,000 metals
50,000 urdanium
5,000 dark matter - something like that, craft time would go up with complexity of item.

Why? cos sometimes not much is going on or it would cater for people who like that stuff and perhaps would keep more people in the game.

Also how about being able to construct a single one per faction ai Station Shipyard which need not be made planetside but serves as a deep space spawn point and base of operations for your faction. Difficult to destroy but with minimal offensive weaponry if any at all. From there attacks could be launched on hostile servers or it could be hunted down by the enemy to further limit faction deployment possibilities.

Sounds interesting. The ability to create your own enh (other than paying credits for it) out of raw materials.

Would be nice if you require factory buildings or platforms to achieve this. Then it'd be in your own interest to protect those facilities lest your investment, raw mats, or enh get destroyed.

I wonder how feasible this would be within the game's code.

i actualy like this idiea as long as it don't elinenate ai farming as for it being possible im shure it is would just take some work and alot of testing to get the coding working right

I have a dream of someday creating a game where designing a starship is like building a structure in Minecraft, where you allocate each cubic meter of the ship's internal volume to different systems.

I have a dream that we could have a sy screen that is more like a personal dry dock, where you interface to make changes.

I have a dream of a more "alive" metaverse, with civilian craft, pirates, planetary patrols, etc.

I have a dream of a DS with a viable mission system that adds some real depth to the game.

I have a dream that fleets, planets, and entire system moral has a real impact on gameplay. Where subterfuge and propaganda are just as important as number of ships.

But im sure that's just me.

(in all seriousness tho, crafting ships in a way similar to SWG's ship crafting system, with mass points and specific components on base hulls would be an interesting addage. Custom vessels would have to cost creds, and components could be available depending on tech/resources of planet sy. And all would take time to build, no insta-craft. Will it happen, no. But I like to dream)

A more detailed SY screen would be nice. Even just being able to equip/unequip a ship with enh in the SY screen without having to repeatedly launch and dock would be great.

We already have Civilian ships (planetary Transports), we certainly have Pirates, and missions are in the works apparently.

I think having fleets able to actually control planets and have a real impact on them is something a lot of people hope for, but it'd be really hard to balance since it seems almost random which fleet gets their tag on a planet when it caps. I suppose limiting fleets to a number of planets equal to fleet level could work, at least that way it'd keep a faction from having most of their planets owned by the same fleet. Home sector planets shouldn't be able to be controlled though, they're pretty well established and have their own ruling bodies so they don't really need to be overseen by a single fleet.

As for what controlling a planet would actually do for a fleet, who knows? Maybe it'd be time to revisit the whole "fleet starbase" idea and use resources from controlled planets to build and maintain them. If it's integrated into an actual fleet vs. fleet system that uses the fleet wars server where a fleet can challenge another and the participating members of the winning fleet get some unique enh not available any other way and the loser has to rebuild their base it'd add some real depth. It'd also be a good way to bring back separate resource types and use them for the bases.

Hey, if you're going to dream, might as well dream big.

It would be nice to have that idea bak, i seen it for only a time, the imballance yes, you mine your own res, build how you likied, sold ore to plantes for cred that was indeed much more fun that being blasted out of the sky by a highley op ship, atleast you could equip to hard points items that would make a lesser ship a formitable foe, but of corse the idea was scrapped cause people complained about it.

Now a day the equips so limited, but yet are sill op. So implimenting this may ballance out the current. or atleast bring new players here, or old players bak i do not think that implimenting ds 2 really is the answer.
