What's the point of having stronger armor than your enemy when they have weapons which far surpass yours in terms of firepower and point effeciency?
I mean, how is high firepower/weak defense or low firepower/strong defense any sort of a tradeoff when your enemy has the polar opposite and it basically cancels each other out?

Well, high firepower gives you more prestige.

That's one way to balance factions while maintaining some kind of difference between them, for the sake of variety.
Would you rather have them all have the same armor and damage output, under different skins? Bland, IMO.
