To hell with lasers, to hell with cannons, to hell with EWAR, just put all the points into forward arc torpedoes, then we'd have an actual low rank counter to those damned meat sacks.

Ask and ye shall receive:

M-41T Torpedo Frigate

Layout:

- 1x Tachyon Drive
- 2x IE Drive
- 4x Active Shields (1 F, 1 P, 1 S, 1 A)
- 3x Composite Armor (1 F, 1 A, 1 Full)

- 1x Pulse Shield
- 1x Full-arc PD Beam
- 2x Tri-arc Fusion Torpedo (2 FPS)
- 4x Dual-arc Fusion Torpedo (2 FP, 2 FS)
- 2x Fore-arc Fusion Torpedo

- 2x ECM
- 2x Auxiliary Fusion Generator ( 1 P, 1 S )

Or perhaps UGTO's got your wiles...

ST-14 Gyrfalcon Frigate

Layout:

- 1x Tachyon Drive
- 2x IE Drive
- 7x Standard Armor (2x F, 1x P, 1x S, 2x A, 1x Full)

- 1x Flux Wave
- 1x Full-Arc PD Beam
- 8x Dual arc Proton Torpedo (4x FP, 4x FS)

- 2x ECM
- 1x Auxiliary Power Generator

The ICC one should be in beta if beta would be bothered to work for the moment.

I really like the idea of players finally getting to use what the Pirates have had forever, a Torpedo Frigate is just cool all the way around and I can't wait to use it.

However, that being said......bad Walrus. Frigates don't need Pulse Shield. That's the main reason the current Assault Frigate is not worth using when the Sensor Corvette has nearly as much firepower and much greater survivability, the Pulse Shield takes up space better used for more weapons. And why 2x tri arc and 2x fore arc on the ICC Frigate instead of 2 f/p, f/s? It'd be more efficient that way.

Flux Wave can be useful though, I can see that staying on the UGTO Frigate to give them something distinct.

That is amazing.
I wish beta was up so I could actually test the new stuff.

EDIT:
Err, why the 2 ECM, though?
Also, wouldn't the frigate be better suited as a heavy hitter with single arc forwards?

The side arcs adds some flexibility, but the point is to have something that sacrifices flexibility and coverage for sheer damage output, leaving it somewhat at a disadvantage against escorts with more flexible layouts, but effective against large slow targets.

One of things Jim and I are looking into are posible new gadgets as swappable replacements for the Pulse Shield/Flux Wave devices, so while it says Pulse Shield right now in the future you may be able to swap that out for something better suited for frigate sized ships. Think of it as a placeholder until that time comes.

Point wise, the UGTO one and the ICC's are equal in their point spent on weapons, and both end up with 8 torps, they just have different ways of going about it. What I hope this does is make the two ships have the same effect, 8 torpedos, but still have slightly different flying styles required to use all the arcs effectively. The UGTO one for example would be good for a large burst of torpedos, while the ICC one might be better for "machinegunning" torpedos as it swings through its arcs.

All Frigates (and Scouts btw) in the new ship design system have 2 EWAR gadgets standard to aid in survivablilty and/or light fleet support.

Fair enough, that actually sounds interesting. But does that mean luth might be getting a gadget that's interchangeable with cloak?

Yeah, I realize it's the same point value, but it's been my experience that when there's a fore only torp/cannon it generally ends up underused and has ammo left over when the rest are empty, basically firepower that goes to waste.

But this is actually another good point too.

I like that idea, though admittedly the same people who cried rivers over the Missile Frigates would probably spontaneously combust over a Frigate with 12 fore torps.

Not Cloak, but AHR. All layouts on combat ships above Scouts have a slot for a "Special Ability." On UGTO that's the Flux Wave, ICC's Pulse Shield and Luth's AHR.

Probably shouldn't mention the Torpedo Dessie with the QST then...

Don't mean to beat a dead horse.
But the ICC apparently has a very similar version of the missile Frig as well.

Only differents being since it uses shields, its sig is slightly higher. so when u fire full solvos, your sig will pop in to the Postive for a sec.

U can still compensate for this by either:
1.)buying a stealth module for it (not realy worth it, in my opinion, since the point is to have an inexpensive small stock ship counter to large ships.)

2.) Turning off ur shields, which lowers the sig Negative even if u fire full solvo. But this frig only has 1 armor front. so it's abit risky. U need to be quick on emergency jumps.

For those of u who like a challange (abide a very rewarding one), i highly recomend this ship.

Lack of ammo and the energy useage... Also, once again, fat luck when K'luth come to party.

Tip 1.) Call AI supy for ammo the moment u launch from sy. u've got plenty of ECM to hide both it and urself, i tested. and even if it gets killed, ur jumpdrive charges in, like what? 20sec? Fly a loop around a sup plat, and ur back in the battle in under a single minute.

Tip 2.) Never had an issue with energy with the Harrier, ever. Icc Missile frig, keep ur speed under 1/2, turn just ur Fore shield off ( u got armor there), Keep constant ready to emergency short jump (Shft+j+j)

Practice with single target AI, work ur way up to player dreads.
(some times players are easier, they dont always notice u like AI, neither do they alway have PD on like AI)
