That's SUPER easy for the server to do, it's just X,Y,Z coordinates and the data is shunted around internally. However, and this is a big however, the limitation here is actually your connections. We already shunt a lot of data down the line at users as this is one of the easiest ways to offset the load on the server (also means no hacking, and we're not about to lax this, proud to say the game is near enough unhackable).

Showing you more contacts means updating more nouns which are quite large in size initially, and it means we have to update those nouns, which is continual data. This means we have a realistic chance of flooding your connection to the point where the server is keeping you up to date, but your connection cannot slurp the data quick enough to keep in sync. This is the reason complete damage updates are done every 2 seconds, rather than instantly. This is a problem right now, so adding more has to be done in a very careful way.

Good to know and thanks for the explanation.

You might want to trash more planets in the homesystems and leave the regular systems more intact.

Just a suggestion.

From what it sounds like there wont be any "homesystems" anymore, Im under the impression it'll be all rolled into one server with diferent "clusters" of systems

Clusters running on independent servers. If that makes any sense.

It doesn't make a difference. Planets in the home systems don't affect planets in the other home systems or Sag. They're run on seperate cores. There is absolutely no difference to how the current server system works.

Lacerta can't affect Sagittarius, which can't affect Ursa Minor, which can't affect Andromeda. Each map is run on its own core, so taking from one won't do anything except affect itself.

I assumed differently.
Sorry.

Will this affect the system requirements?

No,
While serverside we wil see a lot of changes, the onlything that will change with the client is a bit of code concerning your focus. (the area that you get information updates from)

No Graphical changes so nothing that might hinder your GPU preformance.
On the CPU side i doesn't seems like it will be a increase either.
Just that depending on the player behavior memory usage might go up a little and network connectivity might be increased a little bit. But at the same time decreased on the server>to>clients. (p.s. DarkSpace has a verrrrry low memory profile, so while i mention this, no one will even know the difference)
And this is just thinking from a technical standpoint in advance of the actuall changes. The change might not even be noticable even when checking for it.

So if Im correct in my assumptions here. We're splitting more systems apart to effectively lighten the server load, which in turn effects the relay of data between the server cores and our computers am I correct?

So if anything we should see a drastic reduction in any lag server side, so the only lag we have to worry about is on OUR side.
