check ur old memory to see if it SDRAM or DDRAM. if its DDRAM i will rofl btw.

graphic card requires correct software, if you have the correct software, ur graphics card isnt correct. do you have intel media booster to make a virtual grpahics card on ur pc or something? tried ASTRA or programs like that to check what is actually on ur pc?

Submit to your rage.

That'll give you an excuse to get a spanking new i7 with an ATI 7970

Will XP Pro actually use much more then 2GB though? Or does XP Pro <3 ram more then XP Premium?

Jimjim, if you go to the device manager (how to do that) does your computer show the video card anywhere in there?
It should be under "Display Adapters".

If it does try this:
-turn off your computer
-remove the video card
-turn computer back on (with card still removed)
-go back to the device manager
-right click the card in the list and uninstall
-(couldn't hurt to restart your computer at this point)
-shut down the computer + re-insert card + start computer back up
-if Windows gives you a "found new hardware" window then please don't hit cancel...
-see if it works, and if it doesn't or it's not working right then try installing the appropriate drivers

If it doesn't:
-there may be a hardware/compatibility issue...
-...idn...

Hopefully this helps...

for your first 2 questions, idk. for your 3rd, it is their, but when i right click and hit properties on it, it says this under device status:

"This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)

If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device."

do you still want me to do what you suggested? btw, there is no branch, or whatever you want to call it, for "display adapters," but i did find it under system devices.

It must be listed as a Display Adapter on my system since it's a laptop.

Sounds like your computer is lacking something that the card needs. If I were you I would research that cards system requirements and check that you meet them. Maybe you need more RAM -hopefully the old Pentium 4 isn't the problem, although maybe it is time for an upgrade. ...I could be completely wrong though. If this is the issue then I really doubt that the first solution I gave you will work.

Hopefully someone else will leave a second opinion...

So, I did a little research...
Do you have on-board graphics? (If you didn't have a card before, then the answer is yes...)
Are you replacing an old card? (Then possibly disregard the next line)
Well, see the above link.

Google might be your friend for this, unless someone else here has a solution.

Have you actually connected the VGA port to the new card, rather than the old port?

newegg has your memory, i looked it up yesterday. winXP 32 bit can only use 4 gb of ram. I think it is telling you that your power supply does not have enough steam to run your videocard, so its disabling it.

@spacegk
for your first question, if your referring to the vga, then yes. remember, my mom got this from some guy (forgotten who but i know he was a friend....i think) and he didnt give us anything (except for some porn videos that were on the hdd when he gave it to us ). no disks, no nothing. btw, the graphics card that was on the pc when he gave it to us is the same one we have (the new one). for your second question, well, yes.

@pantheon
it would be to the old port, not the vga port.

@x DBS x
that may be the problem but considering what i said in previous posts, i have ran DS with the same exact everything but the computer is getting worn out so again, that may be the problem. i do think it is something else though, although you do have a point. the computer is a little dusty so that may also be the problem (considering that the pc almost never gets shut off. who knows, that may have been the problem from the start, that the computer is getting worn out, "old" as you may say). none of the computers hardware has changed ever since i've started playing back in 2009. i could take some pictures of the computer if that will help at all. (btw, this whole paragraph is half toward you and half towards everyone else).

it still feels like im missing info to give to you guys but im not sure what. if i try to give you guys more, i might end up repeating myself.

thanks to everyone who has helped and for being patient. honestly, i couldnt thank you guys enough, and plus, i think im making more progress here than, lets say, talking to a person on the phone for it. i love this community.

my back up pc has allmost the same stats, dell demension 3000,p4 1.25 giggs of ram and nevidia 6200 gfx card. had half a gigg of ram. but has been upgraded and plays ds somewhat ok. get 30fps out of battle and in down to 5fps. the problem is our pc's are old as crap. but you can up grade to 2 giggs max and it will hlp alot. it should hold 2 one gigg sticks of ram and the graphics card is probly the best one you can buy for it since it;s the older type tech. btw i gigg of ram costed $65. unfortunnutly it cost more to upgrade the old tech than it does new.

Jim what country do you live in? I will buy you some RAM. You can private message me and give me your address.

I will call dell and find out how much memory that system will support and what kind and will get you upgraded.

I know it does not address your problem of the video thing right now but hopefully it will help you in other ways.

PS... If not buy I do have some old ram laying around that I can just send you and you can try.

OMG, thank you challenger. although, i dont think i deserve it, but i will take that offer. right now i will take the ram that you have laying around. btw, i live in the US so if you live in another country, it might be a little costly (i think) to send it to me and i dont have any money to give you. i swear, i love this community. <3

That's really nice of you Challenger.

@jim: his profile says he lives in Connecticut.
