My suggestion is that, when a ship is destroyed, it will drop things such as(suggested item names):
Hull Plates (Repairs hull damage only when used)
Armor plates (Repairs armor damage only, obviously)
Weapon Parts (Repairs any damaged weapons. Obviously, not fully repairs, but if you're boarded by inf and they damage your weapons, you could just kill that ship, get Weapon Parts, if they drop, and then use them to repair something like 25% of the damage to that weapon.)
Fuel Containers (It contains fuel, obviously)
Energy Charges (To charge up energy after a fight, always useful)

etc, etc. Obviously, they won't repair like 100% or whatever, but something of the lines of 5% - 10% repair for armor and hull.

They should be rare drops, about as rare as Standard enhancements.

And these should be dropped, not automatically put in your cargo.

That seems much simpler, though quite a bit of balancing would be needed, to make sure its not too powerful.

maybe a device for supply ships that allows em to refill ahr/damage control, when they load resources.

dont think every ship in game should b able to rep with resources...but i do like the idea of using resources more

Consider the following:

A Support Station with 12 Armour Plates in its holds.

Could make it only usable out of combat, after X amount of time.

Well, an SS has more important things to carry around with itself than armor plates.
Plus, these things will drop only from kills. you won't be able to get them from a planet, or at least that's my idea.

Also, if it is such a big issue, there could be a limit of how much you can carry.

Or, what Max said, usable only out of combat after x amount of time..

Also, when I said "5%-10%", that means they'll be used per armor. Aka, You can use it only on one side, it doesn't apply to all.

The Weapon parts repair x% to the first weapon in repair queue

Hull, i think that was obvious

Energy and Fuel is obvious as well.

Forgot to say.

Could either limit out of battle, or 1 time per x amount of time.

Like after 30 seconds out of combat you could use it,

or make it once the device is used, you cannot use it for X + (Per lvl) seconds.

or both?
