Hello everyone. I once played this game many years ago. It think it has been over half a decade since I last played.

It was not very populated back then, and I am happily surprised to see that this game is still around and the developers are active still! I think about all the other games that have come and gone, such as Tabula Rasa, inwhich millions of dollars were spent in development, the game flopped, and the company simply just kills the project altogether and moves onto other things.

Anyways, I came here because I just bought another game 2 days ago called "Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion" and it reminded me of Darkspace.....it is a LOT like Darkspace except that you control whole fleets rather than 1 ship. The storyline is even parallel to Darkspace in many ways - such as the aliens in the game are running from an unknown enemy and there are 2 human factions that are enemies.

I wonder if the makers of Solar Empire are former Darkspace developers or players?

Don't be a jerk.

The game is similar only in a few ways. Other than the fact it takes place in space the only relating thing would be the TEC , they could relate to the UGTO except their trade alliance was formed out desperation. The ships look nice also.

I can tell you they weren't old developers.

DarkSpace is a rather beautiful storyline, and although we don't have the funding to hire a fabulous fulltime development team - those of us with the knowledge to do so, help where we can.

None of us gets paid. We do it just so it can live on.

Some of us work on significant bits and pieces to better the game, but Faustus likes to think of the development side of things as a teaching tool; for those who have the knowledge to get their hands on a bit of professionally developed code-base.

Honestly, you don't find too many developers or game owners doing that sort of thing, and I think it's a nice gesture towards those who want to learn, but have a very limited entry into the industry (plus the best way to get a job in the industry is to have worked on a modification for a game - working on a fully fledged MMO is that much better).

Nice to see some oldies pop-in though. Welcome back!
