.....Just incase anyone gets the wrong idea about what I posted, I think it's a bad idea as well. I was just pointing out that certain players would be able to do horrible and unspeakable things to other people using those overgunned Pirate ships.

except that if pirates were be playable, they wouldnt be overgunned. or overarmored. heck, they'd probably be underpowered compared to the nearest ugto/icc analog

Pirate ships suck more than you think they do.

When the pirate ships were made up a long time ago, the idea was "k'luth without cloak". Pretty sure that's not something people want to play.

Aren't they all within the legal point limits, aside from the elites? As far as I've been told you can't even spawn a ship if it's got too many gadgets, the overgunned ships like the Raider have next to no defense, and the overarmored ships like the Nautilus and Brigantine have horrid energy issues and/or subpar firepower. And then there's layouts like the Bombard that are seemingly just there to give people easy prestige......

I know a lot of them are junk, I just want to fly the Scouts and Frigates. Maybe Rogen's Flagship, but that's mostly because it has a cool looking model.

Yeah, I thought they seemed like luth without cloak but longer range since they're cannon/torp ships.

What if the pirate player faction only had ships that were blank slates?
You would be able to outfit them as you see fit, lots of guns? Lots of armor? Energy? Some balance in between the two? Beams? Projectiles? Agility?

I think it would be neat to have a faction with generic ships that can be outfitted with just about anything. Anything added would have an effect on energy efficiency, turn rate, and acceleration.

Stop, before you scream "BUT HOW WOULD YOU BALANCE THAT?" give that question some thought

In the days of long gone times ths existed , the old ship modding, Cloaking EAD's , and the such. They removed that for balance reasons same as they would not allow this.

The ships were made with a 5-10% penality on point limits, however I don't think the pirate ships were changed since all of the faction ships got an overhaul, so I have no idea where they stand compared to other ships.

Hopefully sometime in the future they'll get looked at and changed, but I don't think it's a high priority thing since it doesn't really effect playeres too much.

Keep ICC
Add pirates
Give pirates current ICC and UTGO ships, but with mixes of both teams, remove any of the best weapons from them.

Because splitting the sparse playerbase even more is definitely a great plan! It'll be 1 vs 1 vs 1 vs 1 if they can find each other!

No seriously, if the playerbase'd grow the staff said they'd look at new factions.

The reason I oppose a pirate faction is because all they do is borrow tech and gadgets from other factions, where the MI at least have semi-unique weapons.
