I think they got tired of trying to kill me in my small ships. So calling to disband the entire faction.
Ive flown the Pirate Scouts and am very good with them. Sure you want to do that?

a BIG NO! it would be much better for ugto and icc end up consolidated into a single faction known as 'HUMANS' and be able to swap weps and armor between the 2 of them. seeing as the player base is so small right now it the only viable alternative to keep DS alive.

What, you can't just change a few numerical values to make the pirates reasonably balanced for player use?
You're all saying how awful their ships are, but that can be changed with some adjustments.
Why not give them some sort of niche the other factions have not filled?
Perhaps they could have some interesting modules suited for a pirate faction.
Boosters that increase speed temporarily? Beams that can both damage and harvest resources off enemy ships? Just some ideas.

Hmm a faction with very unconventional weapons... interesting or maybe they can have a bonus to captures which could be explained as experience in seizing control of ships

ok, the change you are asking for is simply not going to happen. Firstly, it is a HUGE amount of work to do. You think its easy trying to balance three factions? It really isn't, and throwing a 4th in there isn't going to make it any easier. Secondly, the pirates simply don't have a dreadnought model, in the first place. Thirdly, the dev manpower is pretty small. Fourthly, Pirates exist to give people something to shoot at. Thats it.
Basically, to make pirates a playable faction would simply take too much work to happen. As well, the payoff for the amount of labor is insignificant to the amount of work required. Its difficult enough balancing 3 distinct factions without adding a 4th.

Why not have a server on the side that lets players use MI and Pirates?
Then they can get it out of their system

I would agree with making a new faction.... pirates are ok but eh not worth my time so i would like to play MI but the devs would nerf them EX
Devs check list to nerf
1) death beam
2) weapon damage - 50%
3) and some other stuff to make them weak
so ya playing MI would be cool but the devs we all know will nerf the crap out of them to make them boreing and not as fun so thats my current thought.

How about this:
-Change the ships look to slightly adapted ships from ICC and UTGO.
-remove some armour/downgrade
-remove shields on some arcs of ICC ships (mainly the backside), remove more when they have multiple shield arcs
-remove some reactors, but increase the energy storage somewhat. This allows them to have enough energy for a short attack before they flee.
-Remove some specials from the team. It is unlikely they will maintain fighters, so any carrier ship will be re purposed. It is also unlikely they will build factories capable of producing heavy duty missiles, so only low types of missiles are allowed to be fired, if these ships aren't just re purposed.
-Add bonuses, such as higher rotation speed, higher base speed
-For removed armour modules or other removed stuff, add different things. Temporary speed boost, short energy boost, calculation module (allows for ships to jump closer to their target despite higher speeds), modules to slow down enemy ships or limit their turning capacity (no stacking!), short term stealth modules (allows you to jump in cloaked or jump out cloaked, giving you an edge), scout beacons, higher carrying capacity (for infantry drops) and more weapons.
-Make the ships more build from scraps. Strike ships which have an armour arc ánd a shield arc at the front, but nothing at the back.
-Give them a specialised ship-capturing infantry. **~!~!^@ at defending a planet (so hard to level them up) but proficient at capturing enemy ships. They have a BOOST at capturing ships, they should by no means be a certainty at capturing ships!
Pirates could very well be another faction, we have the hard-hitting UTGO with armoured ships, the long-range ICC with special long-term attack weapons and shields, the sneaky k'luth, why not a visible hit-and-run faction? With high speeds it can come and go quickly, jump in, attack to deal loads of damage, go back to a repair point or just recharge and before your enemy has reached their repair station you are back for another run. Having a pirates faction would not exclude having pirates as an AI faction as well, there would just be one playable 'clan' of the pirates for players.
Pirates should focus on speed, strange ship layouts and long sensor range to pick up enemy ships. It would also be a faction that forces players to band together, as no single ship can stand up to a similar counterpart of another faction due to energy/armour deficiency's. Which they make up by dealing loads of damage in a short time, tagging along at a distance while recharging, and then finishing the job. Any long-term fight would end in disaster for the pirates.

There is almost no chance that it's accepted.
But it's childish to scream 'I've said no!'. Just because you said so, doesn't mean everyone is going to accept it.
No-one is complaining about pirates, yes, but that's no reason at all to stop this idea. Before Pong, no-one was complaining about video games (there were none), but someone made an idea and created it, the fact that no-one was complaining about no video games was no reason to not do it.
