Have you considered changing the game so the client only shows your ship as the server see is? Your ship wouldn't fire or respond to steering until the server got the message.

This has its drawbacks of course. If you've played FPS games with vehicles, you'll notice how they are usually hard to drive because of control lag.

There is a benefit of doing it this way, for one, client side calculations will always be reliable.


TBH I find it more frustrating to see myself on the other side of the galaxy, but the server thinks I'm somewhere else getting shot to pieces... ugh ._.

It'd be crap, so no. Movement is prioritised over all other data on the server, so unless you have issues with natural latency or packets being dropped you shouldn't notice any issues.

For example, I live in England and I rarely experience any major latency from the server, which is located in California.
