So, yesterday I cranked up my ship captures to 10.7, so far nothing below a dread, most of them elite's, and 2 players.

Then I decided to try and capture an MI assembler, and see if they could do marvelous things for a planet. Reaching procyron, I had my first vision of a Node... 200 GU away from me.

Naturally, I tried to capture it.

It's torpedo's halved a shield arc perfectly (I was in an ICC combat destroyer), then I got too close and got toasted by beam that killed my all the way.
After returning there, I found out that friendly AI doesn't go through the portal, and the one AI that did, never reached the other side. The node was still there, now about a thousand GU from the gate, but it had 5 legion cruisers, one preatorian and a supply ship to help him.

Now, I really want to have a go at one of these things, but I would need help, or a solid tactic, but probably both. Anyone up for the challenge to try and capture one of THOSE?

Yours sincerely,
Demigna.

The Automaton count on all supportive ships has been increased.

But i still wish the brave men who try to capture MI ships good luck!

I think he means MI ships spawn with troops now, so they're harder to capture.

hi demigna. i understand your problem, and my reply is-
MI Nexus Nodes are rated as powerful as two K'Luth Hives. Their loadout is extremely lethal.
6 energy torpedoes (MI core weapons)
18 FEP Overload beams (comparable to assault disruptors)
2 AHR (together they repair entire hull in 2.5 minutes)
9 reflective armor

Being stations, they are always accompanied by 2-6 escorts.

The given challenge has already been completed by a fleet named PAD (Poor and Absent Defenders). They captured over 2 dozen MI ships over a period of one week. How did they accomplish this is one of their well-kept trade secrets.

search the forums. the PAD made a thread about it :/

All you need is a transport full of inf and someone to distract the Node long enough for you to jump ontop of it, dump your inf, and get out.

May have to be repeated several times.

You can try, but then some mean ol' admin will come and spawn a Nexus.

@NoboDx: it fired only one of his torpedo's at a time for some reason, a full volley would probably be close to a one hit kill, if not a full one hit kill.

@Comprisory:
Capturing MI ships is relatively easy, my first two captures were MI longheads, although more by accident then design. Capturing that node though... I can dream, right? I'll look into the forums for them, thanks.
Reading the loadout, and the rate of repair, I think the easiest way to cap it would be different from my normal routine.

Instead of shooting it below 50% hull, one ship, a destroyer most likely, should get into his torpedo range, and distract it (in between 600-300 GU was safe as anything for me). Then a dread, fully kitted out with defence enhancements, should follow, with his jump drive at the ready, closely followed by a few transports or ships with large carry capacity. Hopefully, the node doesn't decide to shoot the dread until it's nearly on top of it, where it will tank until the rest drops off their infantry. Any elite and hardened infantry are welcome, but most likely it will be a full cannonade of veteran heavy infantry. Then the dread and all others jump away.

Alternative stratagy: a destroyer goes in range of it's torpedo's, then a mob of missile cruisers start shooting it with strongest missiles from range, until it's health drops below 50% (if necessary, the missile cruisers wipe out any escorts who are there/jump in, so someone placing supply plats or using a support station is welcome) Anyone interested in a suicide rush with tranny's (you don't lose that much pres anyways) is welcome to help, after all, it can shoot only so many tranny's before we are on top of it, right? Especially if we avoid it's torpedo's, and are only attacked by it's beam weapons (who for the most part are busy with fending off missiles). Additionally, if we really do get a load of people to help, we could have another tanker up front who jumps when he's near death (the moment that beam starts firing is favourite, it takes time to recharge after all)

Mind you, this will probably just be a prestige project, for everyone to say 'I captured a node'. I'm not sure if the captured ships could actually move back through the portal towards 'normal' space. If we do manage to capture a node, we might as well take on the challenge of taking an MI planet or two. See how MI likes it if one of their own nodes is supported by some stations and a complement of misc warriors.

Or, if the mean ol' admin comes and spawn a nexus, we could try and capture THAT!
If you can't beat it, capture it!

Yours sincerely,
Demigan.

This isn't pokemon.....damage has no effect on capture rate, a ship with 0 damage is just as likely to be captured as a ship with 1% hull.

Tranny bum rush. Hey, you might loose several dozen of them, but you'll capture some nodes! Also, an even more alternative strategey is to actually use a station to capture it.
