GENEVA (AP) -- A pillar of physics - that nothing can go faster than the speed of light - appears to be smashed by an oddball subatomic particle that has apparently made a giant end run around Albert Einstein's theories.

Scientists at the world's largest physics lab said Thursday they have clocked neutrinos traveling faster than light. That's something that according to Einstein's 1905 special theory of relativity - the famous E (equals) mc2 equation - just doesn't happen.

The world of quantum physics has never played to the same tune as the rest of the universe. This is nothing new.
Proof of point: String theory

If it goes faster than light then it seems we've found something that we relatively* cant see.

Damned Swiss.
Italy should return fire with a Stellar Incinerator.

Warning: Boringness alert ahead.

Well, if you asked the average astronomer (and probably a fari few physicists) you'd probably find out that you can exceed the speed of light due to the way relativity works.

For example, if you have two objects travelling at 99% of the speed of light in opposite directions and one measures the approaching (or departing) speed of the other, it'll be greater than the speed of light. Weird stuff starts happening, admittedly, but it's not prohibited. It also depends on what point of reference you use, since the moving objects and a stationary object between them will all measure different speeds for different objects.

Geja that only appears to be faster than light because the distance between the two particle is being decreaseed exponentially from the two particles traveling at eachother. The neutrino that the Geneva scientist are talking abt is traveling from point A to point B faster that the speed of light. Thats the point in Einsteins theory that is said to be impossible. To travel between two points in a strainght line faster than the speed of light is theoreticly impossible because a particle that travels faster than light also travels faster than time. However that is hingeing upon the theory that time is a fixed construct and exist at the speed of light.

I read about this in the newspaper and thought "Wow, 6 km/s faster than light doesn't really seem like much." It is still quite interesting. I can just imagine how exciting it would be to be one of the people who worked on this project if it turns out that the results are accurate.

My physics teacher showed us this, this morning. He said that in order for the Neutrinos to travel faster than the speed of light, that they had to at one point have reached the speed of light, there for when something is moving at the speed of light, time stops, and when traveling FTL, the Neutrinos were sent back in time.
