Yeah, of course we understand this. Just put it on the backburner or something.


BTW, hypothetically speaking, if something like this was implemented, energy management would be way easier as you can cut yr engines and drift while saving all the power for your weaps.

Might see energy reserves dropped across the board as a result to balance.

i would expect engine cut to work like cuting off engines now. They stop producing power or propulsion.

If this was going to be implemented you might as well just go the whole hog and have ships move in true Newtonian fashion.

So you'd be flying sideways all the time.


After all, it's not like a ship's engines provide traction or anything. Why should you move straight forwards just because your engines are turned on and only be able to drift with them turned off?

Engines producing power is an entirely different kettle of fish; engines should CONSUME power in order to function. It's the job of reactors to PRODUCE power, it's just that the game seems to assume that engine = reactor which works for current game balance purposes. It would get a bit more complicated if the game allowed you to move when your engines aren't running.

That's true Gej.

But I guess we could always have 2 modes for DS? Engines/Assisted-flight On, where the ship's avionics systems supposedly assists the crew and gives it controlled flight (the way DS is now)....

And free or manual flight, where the player switches off the engines and drifts. Perhaps he can be given manual control too? Where hitting W would engage a burn in that direction for the duration of the keystroke. Faux 2D Newtonian.


Anyway those are just thoughts. Like Jack said. Probably not, and even if so, way way on the backburner.

i like this idea. because when you cut of engines you shouldn't stop or continue forward. you should continue in the direction you turned off the engines and turn full 360 while going in the direction you cut off your engines. but i think if they were to implement this they would have to put in a reverse on ships lol.
