scraping a planet before being captured is just stupid.
Only ships with build drones should have a 'scrap' option .. nuff siad

It is a strategy...

Also, when you have people build stuff, they need to be engineers or construction workers, You don't need much experience to destroy stuff.

ships have to be in orbit to build they should also have to be in orbit to scrap

Denying planets is a perfectly viable strategy. In fact, you can just use the troops remaining on the planet to enforce a scorched earth policy... That being said, if you're depending on captured planets to resupply and repair, then you're fleet simply lacks support elements.

Agreed, range should be a factor at least, if not requiring build drones as well. Or perhaps a rank/badge requirement, so newbies or sabotage accounts cant show up and destroy stuff.

Though of course setting the troops to raze the buildings makes sense too.

Or it means your fleet is too far from a shipyard for replacement support elements to reach them. Supply ships and supply plats are easily destroyed, while support stations lack mobility and can be sitting ducks. But a captured planet will likely remain that way until the entire expeditionary fleet is routed.

Having the planet scrapped before capture can cause all kinds of problems for such expeditionary fleets, though.

It's fine as it is, whoever's scrapping it is sacrificing build pres to do it so it's an even exchange.

I can at least agree with this.

i disagree with you there, i feel scrapping a a planet to nothingness before it caps is a damn t tactic. it prevents your enemy from getting a strong hold in your system and slowing them down.

Exactly. Scrap the SY, scrap the depots, make them work for it. You want a foothold? Build it yourself.

In the real world it's a scortched earth tactic. At first glance it may seem cowardly. But if you're severly outnumbered it makes sense from a tactical perspective. But just as it slows your enemy down, it also slows you down. If you manage to cap it back you're just going to have to rebuild it yourself also.

I think that the pres loss, plus the fact that if you want your system back your faction is going to need to rebuild it anyway, I think it definatly is a viable tactic.

With that said however, i'd imagine that it would take "remote detonation" or some kind of self-destruct system to do it remotely... Then again, the planet's population could do it because they're there, it would only take some kind of remote communication to order the self-destruction... so... within the confines of "reality" there's nothing to make range a requirement, or build drones.
