I always cloak and sneak up to within point blank of a dico. Love them to bits.
Bits and pieces.....

i like the idea. i know can dico be a real pain in the...assuming that you cant kill it. but it gives a challenge. why ragequit on sight? ask devs for a sniper weapon if its too hard to hanlde with other means

Heh. Dico cruisers are currently the best fit.
A dico dessie or below would be impossible to catch. And it probably won't be able to carry any weaps beyond a couple of beams.
A dico dread would be too slow and ineffective.

untill they make it dico ships need to deactivate their dico to jump any other suggestion willl get shot down by players and most lobby rats with half a brain rather quickly.
expecially pointless waste of time suggestions.
heres another suggestion save your self half the trouble and don't suggest new dico tech.

Agreed. Dicos should have to shut it down before jumping.
Plus... there should be a cooloff period too after shutting down the dico before you can power it back up.

It's not JUST a new dico tech idea. If you read the comment on the bottom, it says the concept could also work as a direct damage weapon instead of being a dictor. Arcs of electricity crisscrossing the area around a gate, blocking BOTH sides from entering unscathed until an enemy captain with half a brain figured out how he can blow a hole on the electrical fence.
The whole point of these platforms is to SUPPLEMENT existing dico ships, not REPLACE them. Your comment actually serves to prove this point. Jumping from place to place (with or without the dictor field on) is something a large network of platforms could NEVER do. (Already explained why a station jumping with 2 tractored platforms or an extractor with four would not normally be a sound tactic compared to a dictor cruiser.)

I think you misunderstood something.
Let me rephrase it for you:
Before any new or additional possibilities to use an interdictor to intercept enemies are implemented, the developers should modify the interdictor-device of the interdictor cruisers in a way that the interdictor cruiser cannot jump anymore as long as the device is active.
I hope you understand what jamesbob meant now.

That's basically saying that no new ideas are to be put forth until old stuff is fixed. While it may be a good idea to fix old stuff before adding new things, merely writing up or considering an idea takes far less time and effort then actually coding either the old stuff fix or the new idea.
After all, isn't new ideas the whole point of this sub-forum?

I'm all for this idea. It presents a brilliant range of stradegies, and is balanced by virtue of all the weaknesses already outlined.
For those talking about towing them, it clearly says you need more than 1 to function. Two would just make a line, not a field, so it would be pretty useless since you could only make that line within the bounds of your tractor beams.
These would not make the normal dictor redundent because it is mobile, used for trapping slower ships like dreads. The same tactics cannot be used for the platforms and visa versa.
For the same reason, saying this shouldn't be done because people hate dictor cruisers is silly. They hate being followed by a leapfrogging fleet they can't get away from because they can't outrun a dictor. These platforms don't sound like they could even trap a station, just knock it out of jump.
They will require time, skill, persistance, and planning to set up and use effectively, and will be a sharp thorn in the sides of unsuspecting enemies, yet they are easily countered. That to my thinking makes them more balanced than most other DS components.
p.s. I agree about dico ships needing to shut down to jump. Thats extremely unbalanced.

the problems with dictors is that most of the time there are more players on one team than another and when the team with the most players gets a dictor out guess what no other faction will come out and play

Dicos off before jumping.
