Yesterday, while on ICC and vastly out numbered (nothin' new), stumbled on an interesting tactic involving AI allied ships.
U know how metavese balance(suposedly) each faction with AI ships? Well majority of the time the AIs are never where u need em to be, and completely uneffective.
However, if u have sufficent rank, using F2 map, u can quickly order a small fleet of AI to come Def u and ur buddy(under 30sec). I got a small screening fleet (5-10ships) blocking incoming fire at my AD, and firing back. It worked out really well.
It doesnt make u invincible:
-Kluth can still easily get behind u and shoot through the gaps.
-If more than 2 dreads gang up on u, u'd still die quickly.
-If u jump too far ahead, ur escorts might not keep up
-If u get too many escorts, it end up blocking ur sight of fire, a ur end up shoting each other
-The AI "abandon" u after about 10 min.
Nontheless, I can see various application where this could be extremely benificial.
-While using a MD, haveing 2 or 3 close range escorts to help u from geting point jumped by smaller assult ship (TC, Scale)
-Unconfirmed, but i think it does speed up planet capture, it does for sure spread out the planets defensive fire.
-Assult frig seem to always have their eccm on, so might help with a eccm fort against kluth.
-provides a point def in a siege situation, (they do have suicide tendency to jump the enemy station though, no sure if this is good or bad)
Anyway, gonna test this out some more, on kluth and ugto too if not too unbalanced today.
On second thought, might be a bad idea for kluth, since it would give away ur position, should work for ugto(not that they need it)

It's often better to order them to attack one enemy at a time instead of guarding you, though if there's more than 5 or so it's better to split them between 2 targets so they don't FF eachother quite so much. And yes, they do count toward planet capturing.

yeah they do give out positions, thats why we dont use them so much. worst is when AI just thinks of fixing kluth and jump to a cloaked dread....busted. or even better, i dont fix you, it just stares at you. probably getting a boner. and they usualy cap planets at most undesired situations. i think AI is not the right initials...it should be OM (oxymoron)
but hey, at least they are there, never lets you feel lonely

It's a common thing with AI it seems, I've had it happen numerous times as ICC too. Even had it happen with ordering supply plats to repair me and not even my ammo gets reloaded.

Reminds me i was bombing a planet once, needed a supply, call one he comes but doesnt reload. So im like oh darn your out of drone. So i make him go orbit one of our planets (I was busy doing other stuff and could do) for some time then tell him to come back just to stare at me and get a boner like you said :
Ai somtimes.. just want to make you go into crazy mode or /slap them...

Under high CPU loads, we start skipping the AI logic code... that's why they might just stare at you

Why don't you write the code so that when CPU loads is high, the AI log off?

Is that why weapon plats just sit there and do nothing while enemies are flying around blowing them up or dropping troops on them? I suppose it makes sense in a way, but especially for plats it makes them utterly useless and nothing but free pres for whoever wants it.

Kluth use AI as
- Planet cap assists
- Irritants, distractions while we sneak up on you.
