I've only read the first part so far, but I loved the article.
Makes me long for a sequal to X-wing Alliance (The final game that lucasarts did that was similar to Tie-Fighter) .
And I'm still waiting for a game like Elite that I can truly get in to. The X games have gotten SO close, and so has freelancer, but it still feels like a dead universe. You fly around interactic with robot stations, it needs some life to it.
And thought I haven't read any of the other parts (How could it not be mentioned), I have to include: Morrowind.
Excellent find Sardaukar, I never read rock paper shotgun, but I will now  .

Very popular games.
I believe Commander Keen will be there.
If you're still interested in DOS game, read Dosbox. Until now, some DOS games are still immortal, and they can't be dismissed.

One obvious flaw is that DarkSpace is missing from that list.

well i'm proud one of our titles got on the list ...
i'm not that proud they still claim it's bug monster (considering we doing ongoing support and the difference is huge over time)
