^^^ what I was trying to say/did say

In todays contribution: missile tactics

using a missile ship inherently implies a fleet action of some kind. they are not very effective working alone, unless they are adding firepower while another vessel tanks for damage closer in to the fight.

broad strategy:

1. a base of fire consisting of missile vessels, supply, and dictor. a rear guard of heavy assault ships. a vanguard of light destroyers. destroyers harass enemy vessels and commit them to combat, breaking up enemy formations and drawing them away from cover. missile ships select a single target and fire until that vessel flees, dies, or returns to cover. this tactic can be quickly turned to capture planets as well, making it a very effective assault strategy against entrenched planet formations.

2. a small grouping under ECM, with combat vessels engaging the enemy fleet and missile ships providing fire support. it is preferable NOT to use missile dreads in this instance.

considerations:

most missile ships have firing arcs to the side. you must position your vessel to avoid hitting friendly ships while firing. also take into consideration the amount of turn you will need in order to flee an approaching enemy, and your weapons supply situation. if you are firing from a station, note that you can use all of your missiles by rotating back and forth between firing arcs.

if you are bombing using PSM, the trick is to fire PSM and then missiles in such a way as to have the missiles get caught by any defenses while the PSMs go on to impact the surface.

using an ECM boat to further reduce defense range also helps.

I see alot of icc these days dying for lack of rotating shields, let alone their ships...

Please read this ICC... Playing without rotation is paramount to playing as Kluth without cloaking... or UGTO without ever repairing... Come on!
