Like I mentioned in the: "[Event Plan] Attack the MI sectors!!" thread, I wondered if it would be a "Suitable" idea to make a Darkspace CD/DVD?
Reasons Why I came up with this idea:
I have noticed in many posts: "There is no story line; Its just PvP and PvE so missions won't really work"
There may be a story-line but it would be impossible to follow.
Make it more... lets see, more, I dunno... RTS/RPG?
----Idea----
So the idea is: To make a Darkspace CD, and i am not talking about the CD where you can get the codes and stuff but a Singleplayer/Multiplayer CD!
For example: CoD: Black ops, has a Campaign Mode, Online Mode and Zombie Mode.
Well on the DS CD it could have: Campaign, Multiplayer and Challenges.
At this point you are probably thinking: "This is a terrible Idea, shut his account down because what he is saying is total rubbish, he is a disgrace to the DS community."
But here me out.
----Campaign----
Campaign would would ACTUALLY have a STORYLINE which you can FOLLOW
Missions, Quests what ever you want to call them.
Would have credits (Can not be spent in Online Mode) to buy stuff for your ships.
Would start out as a Midshipman, have your own character and everything! Be able to land on planets and, and... SHOOT YOUR OWN MINI HAND HELD QST GUN!
Multiple Endings.
----Online Mode/Multiplayer----
The name says it all, when you want to play online: you connect to the DS Lobby, join a server and bob's your uncle.
----Challenges----
Could have like Time Trials or "Kill x number of MI to get x enhancement or x credits"
Or, MI Mode (Where you have to kill wave after wave of MI to gain, credits or enhancements or w/e)
----Final Word----
This is just an idea I came up with, it may sound... stupid (trying to find a "nice" word) but just an idea.
LET THE FLAMING BEGIN!
-Skulduggery Pleasant
P.S. Scenario is PvP/PvE. Even if you are "Following a Story Line" your not getting very interacted with it. Its just: Capture XYZ, Get SY, GET DREADS/STATIONS, Spam Spacebar, Nuke Planets, Win.
Its more of a Job than anything else.

+1 for each point quoted.
But could it ever be done before DS v2.0?

Well I have spoken to a Dev or Two. It could happen, they have Lua Scripts, why not?
Thanks for your post, it is much appreciated.
(Opens Flame Resistant Jacket alittle) Hopefully I won't have to do it all the way up again, its really HOT in there.

shouldn't be too hard to create...and it would be a good source of income what if the disc came with a little coupon for X amount of credits to be used in mulltiplayer. but then again why waste space on the disc on multiplayer files unless you could use it for offline LAN parties with friends. if that feature is not incorporated in to the game there would be no point in it.
if the multiplayer is not incorporated into the disc then it can be saved in the Darkspace folder with a new folder name (e.g. campaign)

Yes, lets put our already limited and stretched time working on the game into making a single player version of the game whilst we alienate the only source of income that's supporting the game and driving us to work on it.
Lets do that right away!

In my opinion there is a great engine (needs some performance tweaks) under the DS game and Richard should try to find a publisher or someone that would endorse a Darkspace 2. It could turn out to be a great game and get a Full team of programmers to make it. I just think that darkspace could become great and that Richard isnt putting as much effort into it as I think he could
p.s. Dear Richard this is not ment to insult you. I think you have done a great job with this game. But would just like to see what you could REALLY DO if you put your full effort into it. More or less im saying "I Believe in you go for it".

Yes you should go waste your time creating a Single Player version of the game.
On a lighter note: Not asking you to put it in your top 5 most important things to do in the game.
Its just a suggestion, Notice: Developer Feedbak (SUGGESTIONS)?
(Does up Flame Resistant Jacket again....) *Hopes this jacket is Mod/Dev Proof.

Why do I get the feeling that your idea is somewhat copied from STO (Star Trek online)??

| The idea has been around a long time, from before i even joined DS.
The problem we mostly will have is the Ds stores its ranking online.
DS was one of the first to work with a system like that, and it was what drew me into darkspace. no cheats, no tricks, no stats hacks.
While it could be said that is is technicaly possible to make a Singleplayer or offline progressive game. As jack stated we don't even have the resources for it, in addition it would open up to much posibilities that counter with our currend design aim.
One thing that we do want would be a sort of online progressive storyline. Drafell has worked on this in the form of lua scripting and has made a few successfull attempts to make a "scenario" inside the MV for the players to follow..
This was during the 1.5 Beta and it has been put on hold during the pending ships balance and other to come updates.
In short, we will never have anything offline with the exeption if Faustus includes it into Darkspace 2 or DarkSpace Assault.
What we might have in the future might be storylines and scenario's/missions..
Hope this gives you a little bit more to discuss.
E.

i agree. this is an awsome idea would give newbie a chance to learn how to play the game but i dont even think we have full time dev now just one who have volunteered to keep the game going the best they can(and with all the QQ threads i am surprised there still trying).

It would be easier to create custom scenario's for people to play and host them as group instances online.

That could work to:
Like
Server Name: JOIN PLZ.
Map: Securing the Flank
Rank Requirements: Midshipman - 1st Rear Admiral
That could be like the layout for it.
Would be interesting. But like I said, its just an idea.
