nah venus is theorized to have been hit by a huge asteroid which
1) reversed rotation
2) slowed rotation
3) reversed rotation=moon crashes into venus
4) slow rotation destroys plate tectonics, goes through resufacing instead
5) because slow rotation weaker magnetic field
6) because of weaker magnetic field hydrogen slips into space by radiation bombardment/solar wind
7) no hydrogen=no water
8 ) voila we have a very hot and useless rock untill we undo all this
about the new planet how do we know it has water?
lol my 8 ) turned into a smiley, so edited. [ This Message was edited by: SpaceAdmiral on 2010-09-30 21:51 ]

Hell, I just want to send to that planet, one message.
Hello.
And if we get a response? Well I think the world would change far more than we could possibly imagine.

Ugh, I hate how these things devolve into "evil grubbing humans!" pretentio-fests. We've got thumbs and rockets! Let's go get it. Status quo has to end sooner or later for everything, whether it's a giant hunk of minerals zipping through space, or colonization.
For science!

| Evil grubbing humans run the Government so... We won't be going there anytime soon.

Awesome. Can't get out of our own solar system, and eyeing another planet LIGHT YEARS away. Such a humanistic oversight.
Keep in mind also that we still have extremely limited and, yes, even primative technology. We THEORIZE that certain things are true. The galaxies have not been explored, observed, or examined first hand. We theorize that distances from one object to another are correct. As far as all those pretty colored space pictures we see, they aren't true photos either. It's the way they capture certain spectrums of light and join the images together. Is it accurate? Possibly. Theoretically, yes. But theories have to be verified. Until we float a spaceship out into space close enough for an eyewitness to observe, note, and study the data, its all just a theory.
Oh. another thing. Water does not equal life. Sorry. That IS a fact. However, if there were life discovered on another planet, it would likely be as diverse and unique from us as birds in Russia are from birds in Peru.
Sorry. I'm just too much a realist.

All the more reason to get going in this century to find out.
Project Orion would get us there in, what, 400 years, give or take a decade? Of course, it'd probably be robots. Ideally something that can recycle the vehicle to build probes. It sounds like a long trip, but it's the best shot we have now and relative to the pursuit of knowledge and geologic time, it's an eyeblink.

Human Empire? I think you better worry about the American Empire a little bit more. The Human Empire will never exist, because quite honestly. We already have problems on one planet. So you expect us to go out there and take over planets? All I have to say is lololol. Even if it was that type of planet, It doesn't mean that life exists there as we know it.

I am not one of them but some people believe that there is a 9th planet (excluding pluto) that orbits differently to the rest of the planets in our solar system. They call this planet Nibiru or planet X, youtube it there is loads of info on there.
Some people think that we humans are actually aliens from another world, again youtube has lots of info - food for the mind
