Energy will need to be completely rebalanced now that it doesn't mysteriously drain from desync. I have seen situations where your energy was literally draining faster, just because the screen had more to render. (probably due to energy being calculated client side) |
|
set a fixed framerate within your options? if energy is calculated clientside, than a FPS of 60 should be "normal" ...
but i doubt that the energy is based on fps ... or?

im getting a "failed to initialize display" when i log into the metaverse
tried auto set "slow" and "medium" in video tab of darkspace setup, with HDR on or off. All dont work.
windowed gameplay doesnt work either.
My first log-in at least i got to the ship selection screen, but most of it was black, parts of the screen flickered on and off. Had to alt f4 to exit.
got winxp sp3, and a Geforce FX 5500

@JBud, energy does not need to be rebalanced. It is fine, and the issues only affected a few clients with technologies such as turbo boost enabled, which sent the client tick way out of wack. In fact, I'm almost 100% certain it was an Intel issue.
@Hakke, the Geforce 5xxx series was widely accepted as the worst GPU disaster ever. They have half-assed shader 2.0 implimentation, which requires many work arounds to fix. As a result, I doubt we will be writing highly specialised code just to make this dated and awful card work.
However, there is no reason it shouldn't be working without HDR. Try updating your drivers and DirectX.

Clearly your computer isn't powerful enough to process the new effects.
Also, remind me to put a beep sound on the sun whenever it enters your field of view, like with using or mousing over buttons...

A few things to try...
1. Make sure HDR is off by running setup... be sure to click OK when exiting setup, otherwise your settings changes won't be saved.
2. Reboot
3. Update your graphics driver.

After playing with it longer, and while this is not necessarily an issue with the gamecode, but I report the following problems:
On jumping, either by friendlies or hostiles, my screen freezes momentarily. Same with selecting models not previously viewed. This problem is the same with and without HDR. Addendum: F5 causes a similar pause, as does F3.
Models appear to have lost some details. UGTO Stations previously had a lot of pretty lights on the inner hull, they now have a completely smooth hull instead.
As well, although the addition of HDR is good and makes things look better, I think you overdid yourselves. Screenshots relevant: the Torpedo Cruiser is so bright I could not see details, Fargo Rock was GLOWING and the nebula was painful on the eyes.
I'll keep you posted with further comments. While I like the way HDR improves the game, I see some room for improvement; I hope you do as well. [ This Message was edited by: Bardiche on 2010-09-20 12:51 ]

I freeze up when I spawn, use f2 or f3 (only for 2 secs at most)..or try to rotate screen view...beams of any sort are dots..watching weps track to target is not possible..A MAJOR wait (like 2+ miutes once I hit loading screen) and it doesnt matter whether I have HDR on or off...its all the same.
GREAT JOB

The pauses are your system syncing with the game when you hit F3, or F5. It will only happen once the first time. As for players jumping in/out or long waits on load times, they are unrelated. In fact, load times should be considerably shorter due to DXT compression.
If your card doesn't have DXT compression, then I'd suggest not using a graphics card from before 2001.

After playing with the bloom slider, I recommend setting it to where I have it in this picture so that you get just a hint of the bloom effect.

OK that's good to hear. Thanks.
I was just about to comment on how overcooked the HDR is when I saw this message. 3rd to 4th notch does it nicely.
At full bloom, everything becomes blurry. Just tested it at one notch above your recommended, worked nicely for me.
Besides the graphics issue, many players have reported a wee bit of lag or even desync. I normally do not have this problem, but I just died twice tonite at 20% and 15% hulls respectively, so something is a bit off here.
Other than that, not much else. I'm just glad to have more eye candy.
Here's looking forward to bump mapped planets and ships.

The new system delays displaying the updates for a second. The server will receive the damage, but won't tell the client(s) until the timer passes. So at times it may seem as if you're not taking damage for a second.
