Lets see. You have 151803 prestige for 73 days play time. Flash got more than half million prestige in 56 days. Thats what i am pointing out. We need a fix prestige system. Not a prestie system that changes with every patch.

He does have a point - a couple of years ago i busted my arse to see how much pres I could make over a 24 hour period - 7000k was the total - granted I was at a particularly bad point in my life but i digress, now i can easily make the same amount of prestige in a couple of hours while sucking down a beer and not caring.........

The current system of prestige gain is under alot of scrutiny and is possibly up for a change. There isn't much you can do to speed up the process because it will all eventually come into a new patch or two which i'm being told will come Soon(tm)...
Some people have alot of spare time on their hands but if they play the game then they should be able to rank up. All you proved is that by playing the game for almost a year you can get to the top most on the scoreboard. Same could be said for most games these days.

I have no argument with a player dedicating their life to a game and thus ranking up fast ( other than of course health concerns ) but a player dedicating a day, week, month or year to the game many years ago is shamed to see a new comer able to out do them within 1/10th of the time due to bad math .............

they should make pres loss count for something again, that would fix much of the problem..

| Except for causing players to be afraid to play anymore, then welcome back to the empty universe of 483.

Pres gaining in long time period is not pointing everything.
I sometimes do capping, bombing, engineering, mining and just sitting for no pres.
If I only do combat, I'll get 3 times more pres.
If you get 1k in an hour, You'll reach to 640k in 640 hours = 26 days, 16 hours.
Edit:
I made a good example for pres farming.

Hi there.
I've been looking closely at these numbers as well, and am extremely dissatisfied with them, so you're not alone. I've already taken steps to reduce prestige gained but am awaiting the patch to be finished before we push it live. (See dev log : Lowered prestige gained from dealing damage to armour/shields)
After this, I'll take the same sample of profiles I had before, and take note of their play style, time played, and prestige gained. If it is still too high, I'll take a further look into why this is happening and further reduce it.
I'm pretty sure (although I could be totally wrong) all of the development team agree that prestige gain is too easy right now.

I agree! In fact, starting October 1, I will be rolling out version 1.6, aka "DarkSpace Socialism", a major update. There, all prestige gain will be accrued to a central account and then shared out based on the judgment of a central committee of administrators. Favor will be given to rural interests and the farming community. This process will be corruption free and help bring DarkSpace towards a glorious future of equality.
Resistance is pointless and those complaining will be sent to re-education camps in Procyon.
note: this is all a joke
note: it saddens me that i actually have to say that, but i can't trust your senses of humor

It might have alot to do with the fact that the single easiest way to gain prestige is from combat, and although shields and armor are a factor, the biggest and fastest way to gain prestige is to get in a Dread or a Station, jump another Dread or a Station, and do as much hull damage as possible until you die/flee.
I've gained over 100k prestige in a small, almost incredibly ridiculous amount of time compared to the rest of my prestige that took almost 7 years to accumulate. And this is without playing more than I have before.
You want to fix this? Look at that one fact. Or don't change it. I like the idea of being Chief Marshal sometime in the next month instead of next year.

The problems you've stated are brought about due to the prestige for armour/shield change, not due to stations/dreads/[insert class here] doing a lot of damage. Yes, stations and dreads can gain more due to doing more damage, but they also lose more.
Combat prestige gain has inflated due to the change we made, not due to those classes doing more - it's affecting all ship classes. We expect prestige gain to go up with ranks, that's why the amount of prestige is double what you have in total for the previous rank, not double what you had to earn for that rank (fe [4, 8, 16, 32, 64] and not [4, 8, 12, 20, 32], which is closer to most MMO's use).
The issue at hand is how much prestige is gained from doing damage to armour/shield, and we've been looking at that for a long time now, and tweaking it slowly down to where we're happy. I've personally lowered it 3 times now, and by 50% each of those times. Hopefully this will be the last, although if I'm entirely honest, I can see the need for another lowering of the value at some point. [ This Message was edited by: BackSlash on 2010-09-13 07:47 ]

kluth always get armor away in a second, its the hull that keeps us alive for 3 more seconds. ugto rely on armor, icc, rely on shields. All this means is kluth get lower prestige gains then icc or ugto.
I must admit prestige gain seems hi, but its even worse for the enemy shooting me it seems...The higher pres gain from armor-shield balance things a bit i think.
Combat used to be the hardest badge for me, now i laugh at a platinum combat badge...
