Those planets are trade secrets.

Except the only reliable way to train your own elite troops is through abuse of the system and abusing a certain bug, both of which are no-nos. Vets are the only way to go for most people because "naturally occuring" elite troops are not at all common.

Training troops is easy:

1) Find a planet, bomb all the infantry off the planet.
2) Set all your infantry to RAZE.
3) Drop your infantry and wait for capture.
4) Repeat until Elite.

I would hardly call that reliable, since you are almost guaranteed to be attacked while bombing unless nobody is on the other team or you're bombing neutral planets.

I don't see.. Since in my experience the class of a ship does not matter in terms of chance of capture, and vet infantry DO in fact have a lower chance of capture.. And I don't tend to train my infantry, I harvest them from the Elite planets. Making it WAY easier.

New ships are not that far away.. Soon as old ships are rebalanced, new ships come in. And trust me when i say, badges are there for a reason, and I'm 100% sure that sometime in the future, privateer badges above bronze will be required for something. Just a heads up

That's what teamwork is for.. Combat backup isn't hard to recruit. Not to mention that Neutral planets DO exist and it is a VERY big metaverse full of empty spots that no one is around to protect.

Well being captured myself a lot the last few days.

Having 3 elites on my siphon and getting boarded by 4 ugto elites.

The 4 kill the 3 of mine with 2 ugto left. The ugto infantry were set on raze and my ship is capped.

So seems it doesn't matter what the infantry are set to.

Good thing being capped doesn't making you lose any thing. I laugh at those who panic and rather self destruct when they are boarded with infantry.

Yeah, people should know that more prestige is lost by SDing than by being capped. But isn't it so much more dramatic to SD instead of letting your ship fall into enemy's hands? (cf. First Contact)

You actually lose as much prestige as death, without the explosion. And if you don't lose anything, that is a bug.

Like Sops said, don't let your ship fall into enemy hands, I SD everytime.. Because I would rather not give someone an easy ship capture point.

Probably, I'm not always looking at my pres numbers to tell. But I know for a fact your enhancement duration does not decrease.

That needs to change. I'll write up a request for the developers later...

Actually, I think it is fine the way it is.

It encourages people to not be jerks and deprive others from fairly gained stats.

[sarcasm]Yea, because losing things without consequences is the pinnacle of gaming. [/sarcasm]

I happen to agree with Jbud on this one,. There should be loss for being captured. Its not the ship capture point i'm concerned about tho,. more of a warrior thing

When you're captured, you lose prestige as though your ship had exploded. It might not count as a death, though, which is a bit strange.

You do lose less prestige than if you self-destruct, however, since when self-destructing you both gain resources lost and a self-destruct point, which both subtract from prestige. Dying or being captured doesn't get you the SD point.

Well you probably do lose pres. It's not like you're not totally losing some thing. The issue here is that being captured does not reduce the duration of your enhancements.

What's the point of the privateer badges if the only way you can get them is by capturing some lowly AI ship?

I find it petty and pointless to have less consequences for self-destructing instead of having your ship captured. May as well self-destruct every time.

Being captured, makes you lose pres and gives the enemy a ship.

Self destructing, makes you lose pres and reduces your enhancements by 1.

If you add enhancement duration reduction for being captured. Do you see the problem there?

That's why the consequences for being captured shouldn't be in line with the consequences for self destructing.

If your ship is captured it wasn't destroyed, which is where the durability loss on enhancements comes from. What is the point in making it even more likely for people to SD when boarded as opposed to taking the chance that they won't get capped? Makes it kinda pointless to use elite troops for capturing ships unless you're dropping them on AI, which in itself is kinda pointless since they're better saved for defending against being boarded by someone else.

a while ago Stevek and I were testing how long and how much it would take to cap a station, so he dropped 3 tranny loads of infantry on my nest with no troops on board and after the 3rd drop I was capped. but then I have dropped 1 load of 6 infantry from a dread to a station and capped it in one try ..... i see it as the luck of the draw. but if you get boarded look for more inf fast!!!!!
