Ok. So instead of that beam being able to glass a planet with one shot, perhaps the death beam should completely destroy an entire 'square' on the planet with one shot instead.

I dunno. If I had a GDI ion cannon like weap, I'd think it would wipe a city out and the surrounding region perhaps, but not the entire surface of the planet, right?

Depends how big your particle cannon is.

Since the MI are pretty much Galactus from Silver Surfer, I think they have a really.. really.. big particle cannon.

If it's big enough to wipe out everything on the surface of a planet, then it stands to reason it's either:

A. A "Kharak Directive" type weapon that causes a thermal reaction in the atmosphere, or

B. Something that should make the planet uninhabitable afterwards

They both drive about as well, too.

I'm still trying to figure out the purpose for this unexplained evolution in MI destructiveness. Is this going somewhere? Is this some attempt at ballance? Is DS changing into a space version of WoW with massive AI to deal with? Is this some drunken pill popping delusion gone awry? I sthere more down the road?

I just hope there is a REASON for all...this.

ahem, do you rember the history of the MI? THEY ARE FREAKIN PSYCOPATHIC ROBOTS THAT WANT THE DEATH OF EVERY LIVING THING IN THE GALAXY!!!, letting them be dormant for like 2-3 weeks (then the update) the MI show up with a planet mass super weapon, makes perfect sense (no sarcasm) now i hear that the nexus has omega version of this weapon, interesting

What you guys wouldn't want is a few MI ships (or the N14) equipped with a weapon similar to what the SJ Sathanas (FS2) had.... which basically nova'ed any stars (let's make 'em flare in DS instead)... taking out any and all ships and structures on planets within a given distance.

I like the idea of a beam that destroys a single square. Maybe a beam that destroys a single square and does lots of spash damage to the adjacent squares. With that you might aswell make MI harder to kill.

Do nodes randomly appear or do they have to be 'summoned' by a dev? Just thinking that a Node going for a planet cluster every few days instead of a longhead would work nicely. It would only go for a single cluster, have like a planet kill limit or time limit, then it runs away.

If you kill it then it has a high likelyhood to drop a really nice enh.

If you really want the server to come together to kill the MI you need to add a node to the fray every few days at random times of the day. Tha'll get everyone's attention.

I dunno abt the Kharak Directive thingie... never heard of it.... But with regards to B, that would turn any Terran or Ice planet into a Barren, would it.

I was going to tell you guys how they worked and such, but on second thoughts I think the 'not knowing' part is probably what is making it interesting for you.

All I'll say is : enjoy the on-going plot evolution.

Nah, just massive amounts of radiation or other toxins/pollutants.

Kharak Directive is a reference to Homeworld.
