VERY theoretically, it's maybe possible that you can use a black hole as a wormhole. Notably, this doesn't mean that all wormholes are black holes.

Without. With, I'm not sure, since you run out of fuel first.

You both should have remembered that i have done this in the recent versions.

Distance traveled: between the outer orbit rings of said systems.
Usage: UGTO or ICC Corvette. (no enhancements you fool!)

1.483
Map? 1 From Sol to CD: 24 + 6 hours.
(had to rejoin after daily reset so had to guess re-start point.)
Map? 2 From Sol to CD: 18 hours to the half way point.
Map? 2 From CD to Sirius: 21 hours.
Map? 3 From sol to CD: 23 hours.

1.500 (Using transfer gates)
Map1. From Sol to CD: 21 hours.

1.540 ??
Ill try it again when i am in the mood.

I like these ideas as well and I do not think it is far from possible in the current game mechanics. We already have tractor beams, so we already have a means of moving a ship towards a certain point. Just make the connection line (tractor beam effect) invisible and make it stronger and the strength based on the distance from the center. Then make a black ball that blocks light (like a planet with a black surface). Ship destroyed when it hits the event horizon (same as planet collision). Perhaps warping to safety would or would not be possible (black hole could have dictor effect around it. That's up to the devs).

All in all, I do not see any NEW code that has to be written to bring in black holes. Just create a new object with a variety of tweaked features from other already existing objects. I would suggest a nebula arond the centered around the black hole as well, to creat the illusion of an accretion disk and make the black circle of the event horizon more visible and realistic looking.

thanks guys.

and actually, i was looking for more explanation to how big space is in this game, more specifics.

and shigernafy, it would just be some cool stuff to look at and visit to add some more variety. it probably wouldnt be all that important, but i can see how most of that stuff can be done based off of what we have now so i doubt it would take all that long to make them.

this effect would need pixle shaders, refraction etc

if memory serves, with the old star models making a pulsar was possible: one large star with a smaller star in a fast orbit around it. i think this is what luyten was originally.

Actually, ive seen this a few times as well.

In Scenario and in MV before everythign changed. One larger Sun with a Smaller Sun in orbit around it....... it was complicated to make a jump anywhere near it because most of the time it crossed into your Jump and you flew into it.

It did create a nice Zone where it was near impossible to Jump in and if you did you were on the brink of Death but still alive. cant remember who but someone tried following me in there and ended up running into the sun after i made it through

Lets just say that its fairly big, maybe not infinite....... not yet >.>

but there is a very large space where Planets are Absent, and the only thing there is you and anyone else who follows

thanks, and i was wondering about this. since its not infinite, what happens when you leave the area? does it make you go back, like in LoZ wind waker, or does it loop and make you come out the other side of the map again? or is it just an endless empty space that has no point in going to?

also, i lost prestige, i was a 1st lieutenant, and now im 2nd...

is it a bug or am i just missing something here?

According to my calculcations this new map system is approximately:

13,237,648,936,164 Square Galactic Units.

Galactic Units is based on the term used when we were able create our own maps in a previous version of DS of course.

Considering that current science regulates that the term Astronomical Unit refers to the distance from our home planet to our sun then 93,000,000 miles is 1 AU.

In DS the distance from Earth to the sun aka Sol in roughly 7754 GU.

Making 7754 equal to 93,000,000 miles and 1 AU then in realative terms, space here is this map system is: 1707202596.88 square AU

gaifen hive? or something similiar?
something bristling with alien life no doubt... with a redish purple nebula near a sun.

that would be so cool and scary

If you hit an edge of the square map, you start to slide in the direction of the angle you're flying towards. Since space is black and you have no points to look at, all you can see indicating this is your engine trail pointing the wrong way.

It's actually kinda funny lookin .

And getting stuck in the corner is always interesting, lol.
