I'm inclined to agree that grouping shouldn't add to stats for badge purposes, although I must confess I'm not overly concerned either way. Medals are an indication of personal prowess, surely?

a combat oriented person who doesnt even know what an engi or tranny is (exaggerating) can get platinum engi and probably gold tranny because he has a friend who is all around and he groups with him alot
so a person who only uses combat ships can get gold star and use almost any ship provided he grouped with builders/bomber ect, which kills the purpose of ships requiring badges
I've seen high ranked players without gold star, and with grouping they might just get it by leeching pres off of a builder/bomber/tranny/ect
Badges requirements are to ensure you play all aspects of the game, so i support shared pres being put into bonus pres
