Chapter One: Fall of Ursovica

Admiral Jackstern stood ridged with his hands crossed behind his back, staring vacantly out one of the many windows of his dreadnought. His gaze was set on a lush green planet, one that he was orders defend at all costs. Undoubtedly those that discovered the planet probably saw it fit to be named “Ursovica,” but to him, it just sounded like rubbish and the planet deserved something better. It is paradise with no scars or remittance from years of war like previous human colonization had. With the Ice Planet Zoca near Ursovica, you would never doubt that the population would never run out of fresh drinking water either.

Deep down he knew this planet was going to suffer the same fate as the other previous colonies. Zoca’s and Ursovica drinking water would be tainted by Ion Particles that have proven to be lethal if congested, rendering the planet nearly uninhabitable unless UGTO or ICC scientists use Eden Project to restore it to former glory.

The intercom near his position came to life, “Admiral Jackstern sir, we picked up an abnormal reading just five GU from our position.”

Quirking his eyebrow, he reached into his pocket and pulled out an old antique pipe that was passed down through generations of Jackstern bloodline. Navy guidelines strictly forbidden smoking onboard any ICC ship, but being Admiral has it perks.

He then raised it to his lips and chewed on it erratically as his mind raced. “Can you tell me if any match with the standard ship signatures we encountered has?”

The Intercom once again blared to life, “One moment sir.”

Moments passed as he watched it intentionally, waiting for the voice on the other end to answer his question. Deep down he was hoping it was just another pirate raid like all the rest. But being a Navy strategist, he must keep a calm and level head during battle. He must at all time, keep one step ahead and never show fear in the face of war for the sake of his crew. With him, he inspires them and leads them into battle. His crew is his family and he must protect them.

He grips his pipe tightly as the intercom blares back to life, “We got a match sir. It’s the same signature for UGTO Special Ops Corvette.”

Admiral Jackstern curses wordlessly before he responds, “I will be at the bridge shortly.”

Turning abruptly, he starts to take long strides to one of express elevators that travel horizontally along the outer of the ship, leading directly to the bridge. Upon reaching it, he presses a button and stands ridged with his arms crossed behind his back. His pipe hanged lazily from his lips as he chewed on the tip of it. He knew that with a scout ten GU from Ursovica; it would lead a whole armada of UGTO super dreadnoughts and stations to this very location.

As shadows cascade inside the express elevator, the voice came across the intercom, confirming his suspicions. “Sir ten contacts just dropped out six thousand GU from our location and closing in fast.”

With a voice of authority, Jackstern issues an order to the voice, “Raise us to tactical alert orange and send a distress call. Issue a direct warning that Ursovica is under attack by multiple contacts and we need backup as soon as we can to repel the UGTO forces.” For his crew sake and his, he hoped that ICC Command would arrive soon with sufficient backup that he requested.

The intercom crackled to life, he could hint concern in the voice as it responded, “Yes sir.”

Either you don't know how small 1 GU is, or you made a new galactic unit. Other than that, good story.

the bit about the pipe seems ripped off from halo. (keyes)
and the GU's are screwed up, but other than that, its good.

1GU = spitting distance.
