i just logged in for a 30min to pass my time. there was some battles goin on, and i needen prestige so....what else?? got there and fired upon first guy in red box. he jumped out, i followed. wasnt fully focused at the game, was installing some other thing in the mean time so i cloaked. then uncloak and give it a few round and cloak to see what goin on with the install. then i saw i was fired upon (cloaked?). my butt wasnt probed or anything, signature was just jumping. in the days when i played DS more often, this was caused by PING and was somehow wrong to use it for countering k'luth cloak (ILLEGAL). so...i was wondering is that still illegal or mr. fatal comand and his buddies had a right to ping rape my and try to blow me up when i tought i could take a dump?

hope someone can enlighten me with a answer to such a simple question

Pinging was a bug back in the day, and we didn't have the tools available to make changes to the game so we titled it an exploit.

When we decided to change it, we figured the actual ability to ping was not a bad idea but the ability to do it in quick succession was, so instead we applied a cooldown to the activation/deactivation of the device. That way we retain the interesting ability to ping, but restrain it so that it can only be done every so often.

Pinging is therefor completely legal now, and has been for some time.

every time someone turn his ECCM on, your sig will rise for a brief time... usually for a second or so

if he turn his ECCM directly off again, hell just have just to wait for the gadget cooldown to ping again

some ships come with more than one sensor-slots, grating the ability to ping multiple times in a row, if theyre activated one after another

ECCM-cooldown itself is tied to the ship (-class) where the gadget is installed
a scout can ping every 20 sec or so per ECCM , a dread can only ping every minute or so per ECCM

once my sig jumped so so fast while cloaked i think it was a bug
in less than half a second it went from 0 to 7.9 to 0 over and over again
seems that ship was bugged, i tried other ship and cloak was normal

If your Energy hits 0.0 and you have ECM running. THe ECM will speed-flicker on/off creating a massiv bouncing signature.

Had this with my Bomber Frig.

-4.9 sig while at max speed and 4 ECM, yet after my Energy hits 0.0 my Signature started to bound between -4.9 and something abive 0, several times a second, till i slowed down and let my Energy get to 0.1

Seems the automatical shutfown of ECM does not work (like with the scanner)

I think the same happens with ECCM running at 0.0 Energy, creating some sort of mega-pinging

EDIT: gonna check it in beta

i got a fresh nymph with full energy, jumped to icc planet to kill some plats so we wont have 30 sensors waiting for us later on, when i exit jump i cloaked. my sig then started bouncing and enemy could see me fine.

Tried with another nymph it happened again.
Tried with scout and cloak worked.
I think once of the icc members was desynched and had a crazy eccm

" right to ping rape my and"

Rape is not a joke. This community needs to get that through their collective heads.

Out of context peanut gallery is out of context.

Quote:
–verb (used with object)

to plunder (a place); despoil.

to seize, take, or carry off by force.

Origin:
1250–1300; (v.) ME rapen < AF raper < L rapere to seize, carry off by force, plunder; (n.) ME < AF ra ( a ) p ( e ), deriv. of raper

Context. It's important.

Dictionary definitions are not what people think of when they use that word. It's disgusting.

Padma, I complained about it several years ago and was shot down because the dictionary has multiple definitions for it.

Words evolve, as do their definitions.

Regardless of player's opinions on this, we have already made a statement regarding our stance of the word. Please read this thread for more information.
