I've been thinking about this. I kind of went off on a rant in another thread, but costing resources and having to build planets with mines/factories/spaceports could be a good thing.

One of the main reasons that I fly dreads/stations isn't so much that I can stay in fights vs. other players so much or dish a lot of damage as that flying the bigger ships means that I can withstand fire from planetary defenses longer.

With space taken up for resource production, these planets will not be chock full of uber defense/offense bases.

That will probably be the reason for me choosing to fly something smaller, not the fact that they cost resources.

Time will tell. It will depend on how the rest of the player base eventually adapts as well.

One thing I noticed.....the flashing red border on the screen when an enemy is near is nice, but maybe this can be disabled if it's an enemy planet and only flash if it's an enemy ship?

Yeah, but don't chat while you're viewing. Cause if in your sentence there is "f" or "o", your ship will automatically follow or orbit the planet that you're viewing. I think this is a bug.

Maybe have the ability to disable it in options?
I also believe an option to disable should be applied to the right-click commands to your own ship, such as right-click jumping to a planet from the Nav (F2).

On another note, maybe there should be a warning in Nav when your jumptrail crosses into a interdictor, like the warning for if it passes through a planet.
