This is a tutorial on how to set up custom, combat and non-combat, music to play during your game.

DarkSpace has a built in Jukebox that supports MP3 Files, it automatically chooses a song based on whether you are in combat, or in a safe area just flying around, you may use your own music in a seperate directory, and take advantage of this feature.

Step 1
Find your DarkSpace install folder. Often times it is:
C:/GameCQ/.Cache/DarkSpace/

Step 2
Create a seperate Music Folder named:
Music2

Step 3
Copy your MP3 files to the Music2 Folder you just created, you may want to rename them to something you can remember, like combat1.mp3, or noncombat1.mp3, etc...

Step 4
Create a new file named config.ini with this text(replace X with the number of noncombat mp3 files and replace Y with the number of combat mp3 files):
[Jukebox]
ListCount=2
List0Name=AMBIENT
List0FileCount=X
List1Name=COMBAT
List1FileCount=Y

Step 5
You may now begin to add the file paths to the config file, you may add each file under ListXFileZ=filepath, X being the list your adding it to (0=noncombat, 1=combat) and Z being the file count starting at 0. For example:
List0File0=./Music2/NONCOMBAT1.mp3

or

List1File0=./Music2/COMBAT1.mp3

Remember that these paths can be relative to the DarkSpace Install Directory, when finished your config.ini should look like this:

[Jukebox]
ListCount=2
List0Name=AMBIENT
List0FileCount=5
List0File0=./Music2/NONCOMBAT1.mp3
List0File1=./Music2/NONCOMBAT2.mp3
List0File2=./Music2/NONCOMBAT3.mp3
List0File3=./Music2/NONCOMBAT4.mp3
List0File4=./Music2/NONCOMBAT5.mp3
List1Name=COMBAT
List1FileCount=6
List1File0=./Music2/COMBAT1.mp3
List1File1=./Music2/COMBAT2.mp3
List1File2=./Music2/COMBAT3.mp3
List1File3=./Music2/COMBAT4.mp3
List1File4=./Music2/COMBAT5.mp3
List1File5=./Music2/COMBAT6.mp3

NOTE: REPLACE ALL FORWARD SLASHES (/) WITH BACKSLASHES

Known problems:

-Spaces in filenames may not work properly.
-If you are fighting KLuth, or hard to detect enemies, the game's jukebox may switch from combat back to noncombat and back to combat due to cloaking, causing the same song to repeat.
-Unable to manually cycle through songs.

Due to how well this was written and the thought gone into it, I have stickied the topic.

Nicely done.

@Necrotic, Does your favorite media player automatically switch between music when you are in combat, or in a safe area? DarkSpace can switch between Ambient sounding music, to serious combat music when enemies are detected nearby, its pretty simple to take advantage of this with your own music without running a media player in the background.

Thanks Jack.

i just play songs i like. If i happen to get in a battle i might switch to something thats a bit more motivating but alas your post is good. im just so picky one moment i wanna listen to song A. Next mooment i wanna listen to song B.ill probably get bored of song b and go to song G and then figure out that song g doesnt really go for the battle im in so gotta go back to song A. Then i got like 4000 songs on my computer and then i might listne to pandora radio or somethin.
