The MF

So, some of us hate it, others love it. what we can agree on however, is that its powerful. Too powerfull? well, after some research, we have found the main arguments over the MF is that its OP, and/or Sparrow is OP.

Both are highly debateable. the Sparrow is one of the new missiles, with a large minimum range, but a huge warhead. Four of them are mounted on a MF.

The MF is a frigate with a light beam and cannon loadout, and the 4 sparrow launchers. it is equipped with 3 ECM/ECCM.

With this it can hang undetected at range, and barrage its target with missiles.

Many players simply say its OP as stations and dreds, the long time ruler-of-all ship type in darkspace, are now vulnerable. Generally, the people arguing that is is Overpowered are simply too inflexible to get out of a dred, and grab a picket or cruiser.

However, the MF is vulnerable. get within the ~450 gu minimum range, and it can no longer use its missiles. Destroyers eat it up like a seagull onto a hot chip. Cruisers just simply shred destroyers. dreds can be a effective counter.

We can conclude by saying that the MF is not OP, but new tactics need to be developed as a counter.

You realise an in-character news report would not refer to it as the MF, and most defenitly not say something is OP?

why would a news report say somthing is OP and its not, its simply that too many people are not willing to feild the counter measures, to quote some one else ish

"rock found that paper canbeatit but tried to fight papaer with bigger rocks instead of a sharp"

If you are making a news report, I make the friendly suggestion that you check all of your spelling and grammar, and also not use abbreviations associated with games, such as "OP" for overpowered.

Also, keep in mind that if this was actually a real war, why would anyone really bring up the "OP"-ness of Missile Frigates at all? They would rather comment on the effectiveness of the Sparrow. Even if it was deemed "OP", what the hell would anyone do about it? This is war, and any weapon short of destroying an entire planet (nuking the hell out of it seems to be okay right now, actually) is used as fair game.

Also, you would think Commanding Officers, even in the future, would not have the ability to just "grab a picket or cruiser" and ditch their previous Station or Dreadnaught.

It's possible that you aren't trying to make a news report that exists in the Darkspace universe, so ignore my previous comments if your post is not meant to be taken as originating from a fictional Darkspace news service.

*sigh* you get within 450 gu they jump...period....and btw they have negative sig so they're hard to track
Use another frig to chase you say? What are the odds you both jumped to the same place at the same time? Their jd will finish charging before you.

The real problem with these is that they are undefendable in any large ship on your own. Point Defence targets them way to slowly and out of the four 1 always gets through and seems to do more damage than a proton cruise missle. In scenario i was playing ICC escort destroyer shielding 2 stations with pulse beams from an onslaught of sparrows and it just wasnt working. Eight sparrows flew by me at about ~100gu away, out of the eight i could take out 4 and 1-2 always made through to the station. It seems that the code that determines point defence just takes to long to register and destroy all the missles. FYI all my point defence was pulse beams no chemical lasers so thats at least 4 available that could hit those missles
