I was thinking about how to solve ICC's incredible handicap for there ships. The handicap I am talking about is that all of our ranged weps are ammo based. For a faction that is supposed to be able to win a war of attrition this is a sevear issue. This gun I am thinking of is based on the Ion Technology that the core weapon is. The gun would be called the Ion Gun respectively, it would be the same range and damage and bullet speed as the current Railgun but it would be unlimited ammo. Much like how ICC used to have Particle cannons so long ago, the energy requirements for this would be the same as a particle cannon. This would give ICC a choice, either have Railguns that are low power cost, but have ammo limits OR have the Ion Gun that is unlimited ammo but have energy issues when flying at high speeds.

The gun would fire only 1 "bolt" that the core wep fires and would use the same texture and sound but only fire 1 not 2 shots. This one shot would do the same amount of damage that a string of railgun shots dose. This would bring with it both some pros and cons. Pros would be when you hit it will do full damage every time, cons are if you miss, well you did nothing for damage. Vs the Railgun that fires a multiple string of shots giving you a high chance of hitting, but doing little damage when only a few hit.

The bases of the unlimited ammo would be that the Ions are getting pulled from the drive itself but the reason the Core Wep dosn't is that the particle requirements for it are much higher.

ICC had that particle cannon so long ago, and it was great BUT you couldn't last long in combat and be able to maneuver around because you had to not only manage shields but also power for your guns as well. This would be a return of that, while still keeping the balance of the game intact.

Making this should be an easy task, as all you would need to do is add another gun and then just copy and past in the Ion Cannons stats. Then modify them some so that it fires just 1 shot and the damage is the same as the railgun then add unlimited ammo and the same power requirements as the particle cannon. Then just rename it all as the Ion Gun.

huh no one is going to pay attention to this one, oh well thats what I get for posting in a dead forum like Beta and not out in the main stream light of the main forums.

I've never run out of ammo in any worthwhile fight, except on small ships... and I'd rather run out of ammo that's refilled in five seconds than I want a carbon copy UGTO ship with terrible energy draining weaponry.

ICC weapons are fine.

id even Suggeste Lowering the Ammo count sfor rails and guns, but increasing damage , i mean ICC is a logn range faction, aint the point suposed to hurt them before they come to us? Rather then make them laugh before they come to us?

upping the damage would Not only have COmbat dread sand HC Much more effective at what they do, but it also brings ICC to force out a supply ships over extended combat

face it, ICC rarly brings one in battle due to sheilds not repairing by outsdie objects, and armor are just to dam sucky XD

Reason I was even suggesting the Ion Gun was because we had the particle cannon so long ago. ICC had major energy issues with speed and keeping up energy to fire those guns BUT we had unlimited ammo. The Ion Gun would be a return of that, same power issues (and even more if you managed to overcome defense modes power) but would be unlimited ammo. How? Ion Gun would be taking its Ion Particles from the drive itself, as I said before in the OP. It would be the same damage, same range but be a single shot. This brings good and bad things at the same time. It makes it easy to doge but when it dose hit it will do its full damage. So its a 50/50 wep, you could use a mix of both IG and Railguns to increase you chances of hitting, but you would eventually run out of ammo in the railgun.

I know ammo is an issue for the smaller ships, and this wep would help them out the most. I remember back when I was able to only pilot a combat dessy or escort dessy that the best thing to have were particle cannons (or stolen PSI cannons). Railguns and gauss guns were rarely used at all because the Pcannon had unlimited ammo.

The other thing would be to see how cool it would look when a Combat Dread fires a salvo of its Ion Cannons AND Ion Guns at the same time, it would look absolutely beautiful. Something that would make noobies have a drive to achieve something. I know when I was new I saw these things called the Ion Cannons fire, it was so pretty and destructive that I wanted to do anything to get to those ship that could use them. This Ion Gun would do that to noobs what the IC did for me back then.

it sounds like a good plan but if you think about it it isn't.

for this reason.

you already have better def then ugto and with the def mode you will be able to recharge your shields faster then a shroom forest repairs armor.

you have better long range making it realy realy hard for us to fight you when you are near a planet.

you have better PD (pulse beam)

if you have the gun you will have the same mid/short range fire power. then we lose the only front on wich we(ugto) where able to beat you. so honestly what you are asking is to buff icc to a level where it becomes all powerfull. kinda like the torp md day's and the bomber dread nuke runs.

Outside 400gu Railguns do more damage than Particle Cannons. There is nothing wrong with ICC Weapons and we don't need unlimited ammo - if small ships run out of ammunition the logical reaction is to lobby for an increase of their ammo.

Zero28, please try to formulate your thoughts in a coherent and tested manner. ICC do not field Supply Ships much because we rarely run out of ammunition, save for long, extended combat where there is always a Support Station or similar in the field. Increasing damage by single rounds just throws ICC on top of the damage output field and that is not desired by those of us who enjoy a form of game balance.

Timbo, Defence Mode is not intended for combat use. You will retain superiority of fortitude, so don't worry about that.

ok Balance speaking? CD might need just an extra gun or 2 on the broadsides

we rarly run out of ammo? why do we even have ammo then?
i tought ammo was made to be, how to say, a downside to ICC guns' but i and you as you say, hardly ever ran out of ammo, so i just tought of making it suposely downsided, extra damage was just something to compensate, a mean, just by a tiny bit

and just for Fun, why ain't it a long range artillery cannon, slow recharge rate but powerful kinetic on impact or HE for AOE?, that would be something

@ bard i wasn't talking about mid combat situations i was talking in regrouping situations in the breaks in the combat.
