A suggestion to boost morale I believe would be a server load meter, similar to how low population is perfect, players would want to get in the server with the lowest percentage to have optimal connection. Alternatively, they can have a bit more accurate idea of server population.

Here is a mockup of what I am thinking:

Do you want it to measure load or population?

Admins can already view memory and CPU usage, and while that roughly corresponds to population, it isn't exact and can be modified by what players are doing, ships are in use, size of the map, etc.

while the idea is nice, i personally don't think this would be right for darkspace.

p.s. Beta MV as orange (over 50%) wow thats some load! yet i hardly see anyone there.

Well Assuming that "perfect" means it will be the least laggy server, I assumed it was sort of already related to load. (though I know it is modified by population the names imply server load.) However if it was to measure population it would also be a good change, adding a bit more than just 3 levels (perfect, medium, high)

I like this idea. Knowing this would have many advantages, including knowing if lag is on your end or due to server load. People could also use this as a reference after patch releases, seeing the load get worse or better compared to before the patch release and understanding the stress a new feature is putting on the server.

I also like the idea of restoring the population to a NUMERICAL value, rather than these arbitrary words. What is 'medium'? On another game, medium might mean 100-200 players or 20,000-30,000 players. Here, I imagine it means 10-20 players.

I realize that the numbers were replaced with words out of a kind of embarassment over the server population numbers. Hard to market a game as 'awesome' when the first thing a new guy sees is a server population list of : 0, 0, 0, 3, 0, 1, 0. However, that time has passes and people are in there playing all the time again, so bring us back to numbers please.

At the moment, the words are based only on population as a percentage of the server maximum. I think its <20%, >50%, and full.

ouch that would mean assuming a population limit of 40-60 that would be 8-12 people triggering a medium population :/

This happened once when FTL attacked the Lacerta server back when it was Kluth for a week. We had PB, and Wolf join in on the fun and the server triggered to MED with no UGTO on.

this is why i want the numbers back. there was absolutely no reason to have them removed, other than the fact that they wanted to cover up the fact that nobody was going into the servers. that time is way past, and there are lots of people in the servers now.
